I need to do a quick purchace and need to make up my mind. I have used Stingers on whitetails with good results but was considering the grizzly's for ELK. For the experience ELK hunter will I relly gain anything by going to the grizzly? I shoot 150 gr so the stinger is a no brainer screw it on and go but the grizzly I would need to get the 120gr and glue on a aluminum adapter (32gr). And also sharpen them.
I leave the 13th of sept.
I've used stingers (150) on elk with no issues. Shoot 53#@28. I love the idea of sharpening your own heads as more of the complete process of the hunt but the Stingers are great heads and ready to go upon delivery. Good luck and pick a spot!!
I wouldn't change anything this close to the hunt. If it ain't broke....!
The Grizzly's are a great head for elk. But I'm with Charlie - way too close to the hunt to be messing with a change like that. The Stinger's will do fine.
My buddy shot a 5/6 Bull last year with a 4 blade Stinger .. complete pass thought .. broke a rib going in and one on the way out and stuck in a tree .. he only went 60 yds.
Your arrows are flying good with the Stingers, they are a great head, they will work just fine on Elk. Go hunting and don't worry..!
I have to agree. The lighter versions of the Grizzly aren't as thick bladed as the heaviest ones so you aren't gaining a lot in strength and there is a learning curve to sharpening them, plus you have to mount them and align tips etc.
Sounds like you are ready to go.
I'm sure I can get them razor sharp and align them just fine, but I just ordered some stingers from Braveheart Archey. They will be here Tuesday.
I've seen several elk killed with stingers. They are a decent head at that weight, I wouldn't hesitate to shoot one. Plus they will cut a bit more.
What Charlie said...but still wouldn't make a comment cause I don't have any info on bow weight, arrow weight, draw length.
