Would a 3-bladed head (Woodsman, Snuffer) work well on Whitetail out of the following?
Vintage Bear Grizzly
44# actual draw weight at 29" draw.
Aluminum 1816 shafts (weighing 440 grains including 125 grain head).
8 1/2" brace height.
Three-under.
4" LW feathers.
Will this setup have enough "steam" for the Woodsmans or Snuffers, or, would you recommend using a COC two-blade?
I prefer two holes in my deer, instead of one.
Rest assured, whatever head used, I will have them flying like darts.
I will shoot no farther than 20 yards.
Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it!
Best regards, Skychief.
You hit that deer in the right spot and you'll be measuring how far the arrow has penetrated the dirt on the other side.... woodsman 3 blade are excellent 3:1 heads....
i hunt with the vented ones.

At that DW I would use a wider 2 blade as oposed to the three blade.

Simmons Tiger Shark, Magnus I or Zwickey Delta two blades would be my choice . With that said I think a Woodsman would work for you. I shoot 47 @ 27. With your longer draw I would suspect you have more energy than me.RC
Yes plenty of steam for a woodsman or 125 snuffer. My son shoots 43@23 with woodsman. The 3 to 1 ratio helps.
If your arrows are tuned well you will have no problem blowing through whitetails and blackbear with that set up.
I have found, years ago, that the WWs out penetrated some wider 2 blades on 4 different target mediums.
Your set us is what the WWs were designed for.....no worries about pass throughs unless you hit the off side shoulder or leg bone, but that's a dead deer anyway. The only worry I would have about the snuffer is on a flinching deer or spinning deer. Not very likely that it wouldn't pass through, but that's the only thing I would consider that MIGHT be a problem.
My wife shoots 45# @ 26" and gets two holes in bear and deer with Razorcaps and Phantoms. You've got enough horse power. Just get the heads sharp. Remember when the Bear four blade Razor Head came out the average hunting bow was 45#.
Yes we have seen the same thing Terry mentions here. We shot woodsmans for a long time before they were for sale and the first thing we noticed was a 125 gr woodsman penetrated better than a 125 gr flatblade simple magnus or swickey. All good heads and not lacking confidence to use any but the woodsmans outpenetrated most of the time. It is difficult to keep track because of the variables but the observations were done in just a few years with about 50 hog kills and 50 deer kills NC,SC,GA the result being we recommend woodsmans for light bows
Thanks for the back up Data Cory....nice for folks to hear that from an original field tester before they even hit the market.

I weight Wooksmans up to 300 gr.and at 42# @ 26" I know that it will pass though a whitetail with no problem.
Besides penetration, i've always liked the idea of 9" of razor sharp steel sliding through those vitals, rather than the 5-6" of cutting edge on a two blade. kirk
$35 for 6pk. Don't feel quite as bad if you lose or break one. I took my biggest buck with the original Woodsman (250gr.)
Sharp,Sharp,Sharp!!!!!! Any of the above will work fine out of your setup as people on here will attest to. But one of the key ingredients is having that head sharp! IMO.
Liking this thread...
I'm trying a 45#@29" 450 grain total weight arrow with a VPA 175 3 blade this year.
Wasn't toooooo worried about it but this helps the old confidence factor.

If you have any troubles figuring out how to sharpen them Skychief I have some info that Mr. KME (Ron Swartz) sent me that REALLY helped me get them sharp easily and fairly quickly. Heck I'll sharpen up some woodsmans for you if you need em quick for the season. Can't do snuffers though.. stones aren't wide enough.

What RC said. He knows a "little" about this sort of thing.
Hey John, what is the length to width ratio on those VPA heads anyway. i've heard good things about those.
Here ya go Kirk..
The overall length includes right out to the threads on the screw ins on this chart.
