Title: Moving to Montana...likely
Post by: Rooselk on August 30, 2012, 07:18:00 PM
I used to love hunting in Montana. But over the years it has seemed as though the rising cost of tag/license fees have conspired with a weak economy to make hunting in Montana just a memory. But now that may have changed. I have been given the opportunity to move to Billings. Catch is I have to decide by Tuesday. For me Labor Day weekend is a time of decision. If I decide to move it would mean pretty much giving up my 2012 hunting season except for a few days in September. But next year I would be able to hunt Montana as a resident.

I love the parts of Montana I've seen.  Washington State nice too.  Looks like you win either way.

What about some OTC Non-res tags to keep you busy till 2013.

I love MT and would make the move. But then again,I live in Michigan not WA right now.
WA is nice as well.

Have a great weekend and win either way.

I just read in the paper about the surplus of non-res tags available this year, due to many factors.   If you decide to move, factor one of those baby's in to the mix!  It will get you through this season.

Little know fact...Washington state has some of THE best whitetail hunting in the country.  And you can get at them in velvet.

Good luck with your decision Roose...I am sure hunting is not at the top of your list when it comes to a new job and picking up your roots.

Washington is amazing on it's own.  I know I miss it.  Tough decision.  Good luck on that one.    :dunno:

I've been a Montana resident pretty much my whole life.

The only two other states I'd consider wiuld be Wyoming and Alaska.

Montana has it all, except high wages and a good economy.  We got good fishing, Mulies, Whiteies, Antelope, Elk, Black Bears, and now wolves.

However Billings tends to be where all the people live, and the hunting will require driving.  But you could drive to my part of the state and hunt real  mountains in about a 9-10 hour drive.

If I lived there, I'd likely just bowhunt Mulies in the Pryors.
