Title: Practicing on Aerial Targets
Post by: huntercole on August 30, 2012, 02:40:00 AM
Here's a video my brother made of us shooting some flu flus. Lots of fun shooting aerial targets. We hope to try our luck on geese this fall.

good shooting.

I have never had an actual aerial target, but I have my wife toss 20oz bottles with a small rock in the bottom of them for aerial targets.  I really enjoy them.

God Bless,
Nathan

Good shooting.  You guys have that one down.  Time to downsize to nerf basketballs and tennis balls.

If you are not aware of it, there is a DVD out by In Flight Archery called Introduction to Aerial Archery.  It is excellent.  Derrick Oxnam is very good with his long bow, but offers many tips and how toos on getting started with moving targets.  Its really good.  Covers how to make various types of flu flus and shows some of his testing on how far each design goes in flight.  You can probably do an internet search for In Flight Archery and get to his web site.  Good stuff.

Shooting discs out of the air is only the beginning when it comes to hunting birds in flight.  Once you get the timing down, hitting aerial discs can actually be quite easy. Keep an eye out for next years small game issue of TRADITIONAL BOWHUNTER. I have written a story on bowhunting pheasant which features an easy to build target launcher that throws targets that simulate a pheas in flite better than anything I have ever seen before.  I GUARANTEE, if you can hit these targets you can hit a pheasant( and therfore, the much larger goose).
