As of August 29th....  Just an update....NO ONE has emailed me that they received their stuff....NO ONE!!!  

So, BEWARE OF THIS GUY!!!!

Scott had to be with his sister in the hospital for at least two weeks....this is why he's been late with some items and lack of communication.  He's been staying at the hospital as there is no other family around.

He told me he shipped all items Friday last week.

Just passing this along as there were some threads started and we didn't want a linch mob going after him.  This is why the threads were pulled and others like in the past have been pulled till we all know what is going on.

Getting all upset because there is no 'instant' answer is useless as it takes time to figure out what all is happening, and we also have real jobs and families to deal with. So, please try to have a little patience and not go off on us in a knee jerk fashion.

Well, that explains it. I'm one of the ones that was getting a little suspicious. I'm glad that this has been brought into the light and that there is  a valid explanation.

I respectfuly dissagree Terry.I am not saying that Joseph's or Scott or what's his mane sisster is in the hospital but some facts of his story doesn't add up.I am not going to make a soap opera out of this but I am going to wait patiently a few more days for my stuff.In the meanwhile I am going to send Rob an email with my side of the story.Thanks though for comong out publicly and explaining the situation.

This post isn't in reference to this guy, just a general FYI sorta thing.

1. Get several references from a guy/gal for their dealings on THIS site before you trade with someone. I always list 6 or 7 references that can be contacted when I make trades or sell stuff.

2. Get your goods BEFORE you send cash if there is some suspicion. Better yet, don't make the deal at all if you have questions that aren't answered.

I know a trade can still go bad, but the seller is less likely to cause a problem for you if they have put you in contact with multiple people they have dealt with or sold things to here at Tradgang. Most people won't want you contacting their friends or references if they aren't on the up and up. Don't trust references from outside the site.

That's just a few things that mght make your life easier. Hope it helps.

Good point, Terry. I guess if everything went out last Friday we all should be getting our stuff in the next few days. I hope that's the case and we can put this in the rearview mirror- and focus on more important things, like deer season opening one week earlier for me this year!

Sound like someone is about to make the hall of shame list. If you add all the monies up it could make it a decent legal matter. If these types put the amount of thinking they do in scamming into real work they wound be CEO's of major companies or at least politicians.

nothing here either... I've chalked it up to a loss. All i'm out is a can of gasket laquer, a fairly new eco-dipper, and $14 in postage to get it there.

I know there are other members of the Oklahoma Longbowmen on Trad Gang.  I wonder if any of them could chime in and let us know if this is normal behavior for this guy????

Call me the voice of reason. I know this all looks real bad. But maybe,just maybe, the man has a good logical explanation for all this. Things might have gotten worse with the family in the hospital. God forbid it's something worse. Hopefully this will all work out.

my thoughts exactly horatio.... if things have gotten worse at home- that's fine, and unavoidable and unforseeable. However, it takes very little time to communicate a little. To at least let us know what's going on, and make us aware of what we can expect...

The man told me they, SHIPPED last Friday.....NOT 'going to ship'........not looking like he was honest with me.....one more day for him to come forward......

Honestly. I feel the guy will come through.  He did not seem like a bad guy. Again, just wish he would say something here or in an email or ????   We all have rough times in life and no one that I've run into here would seem to ever have a problem working with someone in a time of need. Hell, I'd be willing to drive to meet him, pick up all the stuff and mail it for him and pay for it...if he'd just keep in touch. I don't live too far away.

By the way I've done a few deals here and had nothing but great experiences!!  The classifieds are well worth it...even with a few hiccups here and there!!!

I don't know anything about this guy, and I only know what I've read on this thread, but if one of my family members was in the hospital you fellas would be the last thing I'd be worried about.  I'm just saying...While you guys are spouting off about your special skills and such, the guy could be burying his sister.  I know you guys are feeling sore about this, but why would he tell Terry anything if he was trying to scam you?

You're unlikely to buy many bows, if you expect to receive the bow before you pay for it.  For people I know and trust, I do ship after they tell me they've put a check/MO in the mail.  And I've yet to expect delivery of a bow before I pay for it.

If he hadn't told Terry that the merchandise had already shipped, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt.  But, since he said he'd already shipped it....well, don't expect to see it EVER show up.

Has anyone checked to see if he has activity on any of the other sites(*********** ect.) if he does that would put an end to the doubt of the supposed situation. Just a thought

Gringol,  none of us would EVER say ANYTHING bad about a guy that is having ANY kind of serious issue....family OR otherwise. The one guy that you say is "spouting off" isn't even involved with a transaction with the guy and I think he was only joking around and trying to bring a little relief to the frustration.  I agree, as does everyone, that we should be the last ones to worry about in that kind of situation. However, I have personally been told 3 times that the items were already or were going to be mailed on a specific date.  Each time, nothing. Then he told Terry that they were already mailed on another specific date...nothing.  Emails and IM's ignored and no communication.

I stand corrected.  Just seemed like a bit of a pile-on...I hope it all works out for everyone.

I did a little search and found this old link. Not sure if this is the same Scott Garrett but MO looks familiar. Good luck.

Folks that dont look good... if he has been doing this kind of stuff all the way back in 2007.  Anyone know how long he has been a member of TG? and if anyone ever did a good deal with him? I hate it for all you guys.  As for a motive contacting Terry; it wouldnt suprise me in the least if he had done that to secure a few more scams before he was blacklisted for permanent.

Sadly it looks like he's on all the trad archery forums as well as other hunting spots.  He's either "techieok" or "oktechie"  If you do a google search with the quotation marks on both of those you can see some interesting stuff including a blog he did for a short time.

Paid him with paypal for some arrows that he claimed were shipped after 3 weeks of being paid, and numerous pm's & emails. He thought that I was stupid for expecting him to ship them in less than 3 weeks.
Contacted Rob, and he did some voodoo on him, and he shipped w/ a tracking #...old tracking #, and he shipped the package back to himself...with this deception, paypal refunded my money.
Rob went out of his way to help on an "unmoderated" manner.
Don't trust this snake.

This is the kind of thing that keeps me using paypal and why it's worth paying the 3% and list it as "goods purchased". Paypal won't refund a "gift" but they've gotten my money back on a bad deal before.  If I'm sending check or MO, you better have LOTS of solid references. just sayin...

I hear ya on the paypal thing.  when folks say they prefer money order, then I automatically look for other deals they have had to make sure they are on the up and up.  I always put for "goods" on paypal, not "gift"

If this guy has a history of doing this, I would go as far as contacting the district attorney in that county, maybe writing a long letter, explaning the situation.

Defrauding by mail: I would contact U.S. Postal Inspector and the U.S. Attorney for prosecution.

It would be nice if there was a way to give 'karma points" to someones profile for good transactions so one can see before a deal that they have had good past experiances with that person.

As others suggested we should contact somebody in that county with a letter signed by all of us who have been scammed.I can't live with my conscience knowing that this guy might trick more trad brothers in the future.Enough is enough.I will be busy next week since we are going underway,but if somebody decides to organize us all count me in.If not I will start taking actions and organizing everybody myself.

Well all thats not a good sign.  Glad I am not out a lot of moolah if this thing goes south.

And yes, I WAS trying to just add a bit of lightheartedness to the situation.  And those here that know my "skills" certainly know that I'm not the kind od guy to use them in any manner dealing with this kind of mess.

From the looks of those other links this guy has been at this game for a long time, and I doubt you will catch him. If those in the past went the legal way and didnt find justice, cant see how you guys will. Its a shame and I feel bad for ya'll but at least its out in the open.

You have to try and do something. If he has done this before, and has struck again, he will strike again.

I might suggest a POSITIVE FEEDBACK forum in the Classified section.  Just another forum where people could leave positive feedback only after a transaction.  Using the search function and searching only that forum you find the thread for an individual that is begun using ONLY their Trad Gang name.  That way you don't have any negative feeling going on....and you can still have a reference point for positive transactions as well as a list of other members to contact that have done biz with the member.

Just an idea that leans towards the positive should anyone really think we need it around here.

Another solution would be for buyers and sellers in the classifieds to push each other to get a paypal account.

That would be great! I don't use Paypal. I usually pay with a bank check and ask for a bank check or money order when I sell. I've also taken personal checks but wait for them to clear,before I ship. I know a few guys have been spooked off because of me asking for check or m/o.They're hot to trot on buying something then "something" comes up. I had a situation with another person where I bought a bow and paid with a US postal money order. The bow was never shipped and I was unable to get my money back. For a fee the PO did find out the money order was cashed and I paid another fee to the PO to have a copy of the signed money order mailed to me so I could send it to the Distict Attorney's Office which they requested to use as evidence on this person on another case. Several years ago, I helped catch a thief that was preying on the members of several popular golf forums. This character had defrauded a bunch of guys for over $15,000 in high end golf equipment.  He lived near me, so I volunteered to compile a list of the victims, take statements from them and give it directly to the local police.

So, that's what I did.  It's a long story, but the guy ended up serving jail time and having to pay restitution. It took a long time, and I had to consistently pressure the cops and the DA to act, but, in the end. Justice was served.

In the middle of the whole situation, when the police were slow to act, this idiot was still stealing from people. One guy (Joe) from Houston, drove all the way over to Baton Rouge, and we went to the thief's house and got Joe's driver back. You should have seen the look on the guy's face when he opened his door. He went white as a sheet. I think he thought we were going to open up a can of whooping cream on him, if you know what I mean. He gave the golf club back without any fuss and quickly slammed the door on us.

A day later, I got this very long email from someone claiming to be this guy's attorney, and that he was going to sue me for harassment. It was obvious that he had written it himself (lots of grammatical errors). It was pretty funny. Anyway, eventually, as in a couple of years later, the DA finally got around to prosecuting the guy. I had moved out of the state by then, so I didn't keep up with the whole saga.  I don't remember how much jail time he got, maybe a couple of years.

I bought a super glove from him last year.  He received my payment on 11/23/11.  I finally received the merchandise on 12/19/11.  Maybe there's hope.  Sorry to hear that so many have been taken by this man.  Good luck to all.

Redshaft, if you're talking about the list I posted....that's a list of Trad Gangers that he has taken advantage of....the one's that I know about so far.  It looks like on all the forums he uses some version of oktechie, techieok or oktechy.....if you do a search for those names, he also peruses other archery, hunting forums using the same names.

Bought an item from Scott several months ago..sent a USPS MO..waited a fair time(OK to TX)
communicated by email..waited more..communicated again..he checked at local PO..then refunded my money.
There could be other forces involved we don't know about..
Hopefully Okietech will make things right soon.

Call his work.  His facebook states where he works.  If he hangs up on you call his boss and tell him what he did, I'm sure he needs to know so this guy doesn't steal from him.  Some stuff may arrive because of this thread and the heat that he is getting but that doesn't mean that hes not a theif.

sad deal, giving okies a bad name. I have NEVER EVER had a bad deal on here or any other classified and i have done alot of deals.  Im sure i've seen this guys truck around at some shoots.  You want to give a guy the benefit of the doubt as soemtimes stuff happens but not when he makes 'guarentees' in emails that appear to be flat out lies.  Sad deal

In all honesty,his Facebook page is what alarmed me as well.When he told me that his sister was sick in hospital and didn't have time to respond to anybody I felt like an a.. for sending him pm s all the time.But then I looked at his facebook page abd all the time his sis was supposedly hospitalized he was uploading all sorts of bs in his facebook.I mean really?your sis is sick and you are uploading music tracks online but you can't find a minute to send all those people that you took money or items a brief pm saying that you are going to come through?

I had an interaction with him over a year ago and he was over the top aggressive.  I stopped trying to deal with him immediately.  I am sorry for any TGer that lost out in dealings with him.

I've run into fellows like that a time or two.  One day he's going to run into someone that isn't going to flinch when he bluff charges.

Nada, Nothing, Zip, Zero, Zilch....big fat goose egg...Not a damn thing has shown up in my mail from this guy who "guaranteed" we would all get our stuff......

Every single one of you that has been taken by the guy needs to make a call to Sheriff's office in his town. I'd bet he'd be interested to learn of a thief hiding in plain sight.

I sent an email to the McClain County District Attorney Office ( mcclain@okdist21.org ) a few days ago, but haven't heard any response. Maybe several voices would encourage action.

Looper, you are correct. If hes being a scumbag here he's doing it in his own community as well and while I'll bet his local law already has an idea that he's a thief, theyd like an excuse to stop in on him for a visit.
