Title: New Recurve
Post by: Coach Jones on August 28, 2012, 08:24:00 PM
I am ready to jump back into traditional archery.  I have had a couple of recurves over the years, a Brackenbury back in 1992 that I loved and shot for 2 years.  Then a GN Ghost 2 years ago that I liked everything about but never got used to the grip.  So now I am ready to jump back in.  I am thinking about a stock bow from South Cox at Stalker.  Seems like the grip might be close to that old Brackenbury I had.  Are there any others you might recommend?  Thanks!

There are a bunch of quality Recuves out there. One piece , 2 piece, 3 piece. Look at the Bowyers in the Sponsor listings, check out their bows, find some that you like. Then do search on here for the ones that interest you. You'll get all kinds of opinions, but it may help you to narrow it down some! Good luck in your search and have fun!

South makes a great bow for sure! You might also look at Sarrels Archery. Bob also makes one heck of a bow for a rasonable price.

My suggestion is the Bear Super Kodiak. I have shot alot of recurves , but none have the feel and overall qualities of the Super K.  The easiest bow to shoot that I have tried. Not to mention a good looker

I have a Stalker Surge and believe it is a close cousin to the Bracks and similar to a Wes Wallace. Excellent company to keep for sure and yes the grip is great. Very natural feel, hand seems to lock in place.

I am shooting a Longbow now exclusively, but I always said if I were going to buy another takedown recurve it would be a ZIPPER. Lots of choices out there though.

I talked with Dan at Toelke bows and he has a nice little Chinook recurve I am considering.

Not sure how the grips would compare to a bows you described but I would take a look at Kota bows.  I am new to traditional archery and have only shot 12-15 different recurves and a few longbows and to me the Kota is hard to beat, but this is my personal opinion. The bowyer Tim Finly is one hell of a guy to.

Forgot to add....if your not wanting to spend a lot of money keep a look out in the classified for a Bear Super Kodiak or a Bear Grizzly. Again my opinions only.
