so i watched MBB2 and it had fred eichler shooting vanes off his recurve so i decided to try it after i shot really really poorly at a shoot in the rain due to feathers soaking up water and changing the spine or something, so i work at wallyworld and we sell some plastic vane 2216's at 31" so i decided to try it and see what happens heres the results of bareshaft vs vane

i say thats pretty good personally bare shaft is a tad nock low but that could have been my release also camera was at an angle the shafts spine perfectly
UPDATE:
so i discovered that the arrow was just ever so slightly stiff so i got around to stop being lazy and fix it by adjusting brace so here's the final outcome(unless i decide to fix my ever so slight nock high (maybe a half inch at 10 yards bareshaft)
im more then happy with my vanes at this point

I have often thought if you are spined right you SHOULD be able to shoot vanes off the shelf. I guess feathers just give you more forgiveness if you are not consistent in draw or release.
Be interested to hear how you go with it longer term.

I think you may want to:
Step back to 30 yards or so
And/Or
Screw a broadhead on
And repeat the test before you call it a success. Shows lots of promise though!
I have had good results with vanes and broadheads by shooting vanes cock feather in. That's was with a 52# bow [and 2216's] that was center shot!
I think (as I said in a previous thread) that the short blazer vanes, shot cock feather in, have little interference from the shelf as by the time they get there they have paradoxed themselves away from it. They shoot well for me.
Susan, I think you are just tuned real well. Blazers have the highest profile of any vane and should be the most difficult to get clearance with. You should be golden with any feather or vane set with the same orientation.

i screwed a broadhead in and it was perfect but i was always 2" away roughly so i ran the test with feathers and got the same sized groupings
That looks great, but I would like to see a group of 2 bareshafts and 2 fletched arrows grouped together from 15-20 yards as well.
the longer then 10 yards will have to wait untill thursday but ill do one later tonight at 10 yards ill also throw in 2 broadheaded into that group to see what happens

I agree with Steve. A person's tuning would have to be severly out of whack to see much of anything at ten yards.
