Title: Schnees or Kenetrek pac boots?
Post by: Terry Lightle on August 26, 2012, 07:18:00 PM
Was wondering who has experience with these pac boots and your opinions.Going to get my boots for next years moose hunt and wear them this deer season so they will be good and broke in for next year.

I've got the Schnees and really like them. They will probably outlast me because I only wear them when it's cold. I've heard nothing but good about Kenetrek too.

Don't sweat the breaking in.  My Schnees were comfortable out of the box but I don't do a lot of long distance hiking in them.

I also have a pair of Schnee's and have been really happy with them. My feet get cold easily and I spend quite a bit of time on the stand in the late bow season so I opted for the Schnees Extreme pack boot. A hunting buddy of mine has a pair of the Kenetrek pack boots and the mountain extremes. He is very pleased with both.

I have a pair of Schnee's Hunter II boots and my dad has a couple styles of them. I really like them. I think Schneess is a good boot, however I am very dissapointed in the fact that they are not 100% made in the USA.  The boots are advertised as "Handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana", but if you take the liner/soles out you will find that the rubber bottoms are made in China or Thailand and I assume just sewn on in the US.  I still think they are a good boot, just dont like the way the advertise them to make you think they are USA made and sold at a USA made price.

best of luck
AJ

I bought the kenetrek pac boots last year.  Best hunting boot I've owned to date...and I've owned A LOT!  Really warm, good ankle mobility for a boot that sturdy and warm.  Really easy to cover ground in and keep your feet toasty on stand.  I don't think you can go wrong with either.

I'd say to try them both on and make your decision based on which fit your feet the best.

Schnees only come with a medium bottom which is a problem if you have a wider foot, they are noticeably smaller for my feet.  Just a thought if you wear heavy socks and have a wider foot they would be tight.

Mountain State Archer, I think you'll find that with most all rubber bottom boots the rubber is made outside the USA and then the boot assembled here. I know Kenetrek is done this way, as they explained it to me. I have a pair of their Bobcat zip up rubber bottoms and they're a really nice boot. They fit better and are more comfortable than the Schnee's I have.

Anyone know of a rubber boot where the rubber is made in the USA????

I am with JJB2, KenetreK all the way!!  I have used them on a jillion hunts and have killed a lot of deer wearing them.  Comfy, warm, dry and great traction ... wear like Iron!

Never had Kenetreks, but my Schnees are the best boots I have ever owned.

I own 2 pairs of schnees, 1 for work and 1 for play plus my son bought a pair of the western packers last year and we love em. But I don't think you can go wrong with either brand it just depends on which one fits YOU the best.

I have Schnee's.  I wear them on stand at temps of 30-50 and for walking at temps of -20 to -20.  Great walking boot for cold weather, but could get warm at higher temps.

Looking at their websites, both Schnee's and Kenetrek's are assembled in Montana... that's news to me, I thought that Kenetrek's were assembled in Asia, but either they changed that recently or I was mistaken.

I have Schnee's myself, but nothing wrong with some good old fashioned cross town competition!

I have two pairs of Kennetrek Hardscrabble Light boots and love them, but chose the Schnee's pack boots after carefully comparing them with the Kennetrek pacs at the SCI convention a few years ago. The Schnee's quality was better, although the Kennetreks are also good boots. If you can, try both and pick the one you like the best. You can't go wrong with either.

I own 3 pairs of Schnees. I really love the uninsulated boot with the tire tread sole. For early season, this is the quietest sole that I have walked on. The leathers on Schnee boots are top of the line material.

I have held off rebuiling my 2000 Schnee Hunters for a LONG time because of all this China talk.  I sent them in Friday with a little prayer they have some old stock that falls off a shelf when they start working on my favorite pair od boots.  They are not perfect, but they will work for anything as I was forced to prove to myself on a Stone sheep hunt!

I should know soon and will report back how they compare and if they are as good after the rebuils as they were in 2000.

Those are both top-line boots.  I have Schnees and have worn them for a number of years.  They've never given me a bit of problem so all I can say is that they are a quality item.  Hear lots of good things about Kennetrek too....so I guess you toss a coin and order the one that comes up 'heads'.

waht size you looking for.  I got a pair of Hunters I think they are called.  have the removable liner in them in size 10.  I have probably wore them 5 times.  Nothing wrong with them I just prefer a full rubber boot when deer hunting, and I have started wearing Mendle boots out of cabelas and they fit my feet better.  I would sell them to someone who would use them.
