Hi guys and gals,
Just curious of what yall's favorite longbow is? I am kinda in the market for a 45-50lb range longbow. I have only ever had one other but it was too heavy, (learned from that mistake).
So, what's yall's favorite, smooth drawing, forgiving longbows?
I have looked at Northern Mist bows on their site and have no idea what grip I should look for.
Kinda thinking straight or locater style but not sure.
I believe my Draw Length (with recurve anyways) is 29" but need to verify.
I also shoot 3 under.
Fox Triple Crown. One sweet bow.
Regards,
Grouse
Pronghorn
Wild horse creek, or kanati
Frederick Longbows by Fritz Jonk.
Hard to find though.
AJ
My Hills Cheetah,HalfBreed, RuffedGrouse..
omega, not the prettiest bow bow man it works for me and is very fast and accurate and cheap in $$$$
Sentman Moosejaw 50#@28". Gary is now making a new longbow called the Icon which surpasses his other bows in performance.
Too many options! I have a Big Jim TC, which I love. I have a Pronghorn, which I love. I have a Northern Mist Baraga, which I love. I just got a HH Wesley Special; I have had it two days, and I love it. None of those longbows are really very similar, but they are all great bows.
I think you started at. A good place looking at Northern Mist. I love them
Bamabows Elite Classic at www.bamabows.com (http://www.bamabows.com) or any bow from bamabows
Maddog all the way bro. Cheap but craftsmanship is second to none, performance is second to none and better than most. All this while being so smooth it is scary. Here's pics. God Bless

thanks everybody who's posted!
keep em coming, very interesting!

Hummingbird 3 pc or 1 pc.LCH
Love my kohannah, but honestly, I have nothing to compare it to.
A couple of my favorite longbows are Black Widow PL V, Northern Mist Baraga(with the standard grip), and I recently picked up a set of Trad Tech ILF longbow limbs for my TT Pinnacle II riser....they shoot very nice, I'm really liking them alot

I love Pronghorns. I have added one more since I took this pic. Herb's bows are smooth, quick, and quiet. Can't go wrong with a Pronghorn. Made one bow at a time by one guy, Herb.
You may already know this but I'm going to say it anyway, it doesn't matter what my favorite longbow is, the only thing that matters is what your favorite longbow is. You need to shoot as many different bows as possible, learn what you like in regards to grips, pre-load, profile and feel on release, then you will know what you want. Course then you will have to try all the other bows, just to make sure.
Haha Crash, I hear you.
That's actually what I'm planning on. However, I thought to get some insight from you guys couldn't hurt either. ;) I don't have alot of options in trying different bows out right now as I live in Mustang, OK (Not any good trad shops that I'm aware of) and I work every single weekend so, shoots are out for me. The only things I know I want are lower grip (than recurve), smooth draw to my DL, quiet shooting, forgiving bow . . . is that asking too much? :goldtooth:

If you are on a budget the Omega is the ticket. It shoots a fast arrow, but it is a utilitarian bow. Mine throws a serious arrow down range!
If you have a bigger budget Bamabow is the way to go.
I am a fan of reflex/deflex longbows.

Leon Stewart, the best for me of the bows I have shot.
AWP: That Maddog looks great.
Most of the bows mentioned are good choices. There are so many that I would personally reccomend that you research the forums and check out all of the bowyers sites and talk to as many as you can of owners of each. Some of the best bowyers in the world are sponsers of this site. Just choose whichever one you like best that offers the options and price you have in mind and you can't go wrong/
God bless and good luck, Steve
Hummingbird and Big Jim are current favorites and Jim/Buddy 21st Century are tops in my book.
Right now my favorite is my Shrew Hill, has been for most the spring and all summer.
Bob.
Thanks all, I really appreciate it!
HH
Griffin, been a beauty in the classified right in your weight range.
In no particular order. Jim Neaves Centaurs, each bow is a work of art. John McCullough Griffins, smooth and quiet. Dan Toelke Whips, amazing bows. And the Jason Kendall Kanati. Jasons bows are one of, if not the best shooting longbows out there.
Lots of great longbows being built these days,I am really happy with my Cari-Bow
Love my Howard Hill Big 5. Smooth, powerful and light. Go for the straight grip (you can always dish it later if it doesn't work for you). Your draw length will probably shorten up more than you would think with this style bow. I went from a 29" draw with a recurve medium grip down to a very comfortable 27" with the Hill bow.
I lean towards the Hill style but shoot others as well. Lots of great bows mentioned above, and you couldnt go wrong with any of them.
Right now my favorite is a no name Hill style longbow 70' 65 -70 lbs ( never scaled it )and as best i can find out was made in the 70's that i picked up in a trade.
Thanks DWilhelm,
Never thought about being able to dish a straight grip if I didn't like it, awesome.
Tomahawk Legacy series!
Crow Creek
I Love my Howard Hill and my Green mountian longbows the most. and I'm always open to
trying more. there's alot of Nice longbows
out there!
Which ever one of my Big Jim's I'm shooting
I like Hill bows. I have 2 Weley Specials, 2 Cheetahs, and a Big Five. Most commonly I shoot a Wesley or the 55 lb. Cheetah. I don't yet own a Northern Mist but have shot them. They are very nice, too.

Steve, those Eaglewings you make are beautiful.
God bless and good luck, Steve
I just picked up a used Toelke Super D and it has leapfrogged my other longbows. It just really fits my hand well.
Love my Bob Lees
I have had several longbows, and my Black Widow is the clear winner.
If I had the money to spend, I'd be trying a Shrew someday, an Acadian Woods Tree Stick (3-piece), a Cari-bow, a Tomahawk Legacy (3-piece) and a couple others I have researched a bit.
But if I never buy another bow, my BW could easily handle being my go-to bow for the rest of my days.
HumbleHunter,I just picked up a 62" Northern Mist Baraga from a fellow member here. I got a heck of a bow,and met a heck of a cool guy to boot. I LOVE THIS BOW. At first I thought I would probably not like it because it is just a basic,no frills type of bow. Boy was I wrong. It shoots right where I want it to,Dead Quiet. No handshock, and casts my .525 grain arrow flat out to 20 yards. It does all I could ask for and more. I am really impressed with it. rat'
Jim Reynolds "THUNDERSTICK or MOAB.
I shoot a HH Cheetah, and a Liberty Contender Elite.
I shoot the Hill the best but I sure like both of them.
Crooked Stic longbow is mine!!!!!
Humble:
See the Howard Hill Bug post -usually on pg. 1 PowWow - for 700 pages of info. you will read lots about shortened draw lengths, grips, ideal length for smoothest feel, and tons more.
Lots of pics, humor , fun!
Leave no trace.
The bow I can't seem to put down is my Northern Mist Shelton, the rest of my bows barely make it off the rack.
My 62 inch acs
The only one that I have managed to keep is a Dwyer Defiant. The others have gone to make more room for recurves...
Thanks Sixby. I am sure that Mike will take that as a great compliment from a guy that makes a bow as well as you do. It is a looker in my eye as well. Long and lean, but curvy in the right spots.8>) But just like your bows, as good looking bow as it is, it is even a better performer.
Treadway Black Forest, I own 2 of them
Hands down for me is my Mowawk.I have owned and shot many others but my search has ended.
awesome info, thanks everybody!
Hh
Humble, not sure how much you have in the coffee can for your longbow but I have a Morrison Shawnee 'A' riser with 'F' limbs that comes in at 64". Short riser + long limbs = super smooth out to my 29+" draw length and is shooting a 500+ grain arrow at 195 FPS average through the chrono. I bought this set up used for under $500 and it has surpassed all other bows I have shot to date. I would suggest you give a Morrison a try too if you can find someone at a shoot with one that might let you stretch the string on it for a few arrows. I'm certain you'll appreciate the performance. ~Steve
The longbows that shot best for me are the Toelke Classic Whip (nothing wrong with the regular whip, if that style grips fits you better) and a Marriah Chinook. Both bows were great for me...Mike
My two Longwalkers, then my Hills.
I prefer Hill style longbows and of those my Timberline "BamYew" is my favorite.
I've had mild R/D and heavy R/d bows in the past and still have a few. Of those,my favorite mild R/D is my Sentman "Deluxe carbon competition" and for heavy R/D,my JD Berry "Serpentine"
Not only my favorite longbow but the bow that ends all others for me, more or less, is the widow pl
My favorite longbow would be a Firefly FX. Just an amazing bow.
The longbow I wish I had never sold - Kanati, and as soon as I see one again in my specs I'll have it back.
My Favorite is my Northern Mist Whisper, reverse handle. My VERY close second is my Northern Mist Baraga. They are both very smooth shooting. Cast heavy arrows well, and are extremely quiet.

BaldingEagle,
I noticed on their website that the nm whisper's reverse handle changes pivot point in relation to archer's hand, what exactly does it do?
Thanks everybody!
Really enjoying yall's comments.
HH
I love my 3 Mohawks. :archer:
Great Northern Bushbow...Jerry Brumm makes a very good bow
I love my centaurs! I got rid of the rest of my longbows as a 60 inch centaur fits me perfect. And I really love my new dark matter at 47 lbs. So far 2 shots and 2 critters down perfect!
My top 3 choices are
Centaur
Lone wolf
Pronghorn
><>>
Glenn
Centaur, Centaur, Centaur
Dido what medic77 said..."Centaur, Centaur, Centaur" :smileystooges:
Also love those Kanati's! :clapper:
HH---I don't know about changing pivot points, but I know that I shoot both my Whispers better than I do a traditional handled bow.
Centaur,Thunderstick III and MOAB,Big Jim Buffalo
Caribow Peregrine hands down! Smooth as silk, blazing fast, death-quiet and amazing craftmanship.
Hunter by BamaBow
Northern Mist
Southern Draw(Jeff Carter) 3 pc.
Lucas
Liberty Edge
Have 2 of them a 64" & 66", like the 66" the best. My fiance is using the 64".
Out of the ones I've tried, I've settled on my Thunderstick MOAB and a Mag. Both are great R/D longbows.
Awesome, thanks everybody!
I really enjoy getting so many opinions!
Thanks again, HH
