Suggest to me a 60# bow that's relatively short, quiet, smooth, and quiet made for a 29" draw. An arrow combo that works would be an additional bonus.
Just curious here, the wheels are turning on trying out a heavier bow. Currently (and in the past) I shoot a Toelke Whip longbow. Hard to beat and might prefer a longbow, but not entirely against a recurve.
Kinda fantasizing here, but thanks in advance.
Martin Mamba, 58 inches. I used to have one, I had no problems with a 29 inch draw.
Give Dan another call, he had some recurve at a shoot that was 58" and I drew it to 31 (at his encouragement)
I don't have but a tiny bit of experience shooting one, but the Big Jim TC really shot well for me at 58", even with a 31" draw. I would assume that a Shrew would be a good option, too.
Cari-Bow
Stalker static smooth an quiet
www.bamabows.com (http://www.bamabows.com) Look ay Nate's expedition. Short reflex/deflex longbow that shoots smooth and fast.
Toelke chinook. What weight are you shooting now?
Morrison Cheyenne with foam core limbs (A riser and C limbs would make a 58" bow and fantastic for a 29" draw)
60" Zipper SXT with foam core limbs
60" Thunderhorn 3-piece with Red Elm core limbs
These are the ones I've kept that posses all your criteria.
x2 Go with a Zipper !!!
Some great recommendations. Thanks.
I would go with any of these: Zipper foam core recurves, Big Jim Thunderchild, or any of the Shrew models if you are looking for a bow under 62". 62" and over my personal favorite is the Tomahawk line of bows. I have never personally shot any of these bows that pull 60# as you can see in my signature I shoot 55# bows.
Some great recommendations. Thanks.
big Jim or wild horse creek bow or lost creek would be my vote
Zipper SXT, 58" would work at your draw or a 60". Foam core, carbon lam as someone else said above. My opinion would be 60" at your draw - nice and smooth. I shoot an SXT - two sets of limbs, both foam core. 58" recurve and 64" lb, the curve is 62# at my 30" draw and the LB is 58#. Both limbs shoot a 550 grn arrow 190 fps and a 650 grn at 175...of course that big boy would be running a little slower down range. Can't go wrong with a Zipper. Case in point, you'll probably have to buy a new one cause there aren't too many that hit the classifieds.
Cari-bow Slynx.
Mathews Z7 :biglaugh:
Look at the Wild Horse Creek for sale in the classifieds. A great bow that is basically new.
My vote goes for a Kanati . For the price I just dont feel it can be beat . There are other bows with more specialty options out there , but in shootability and speed I dont think you can beat one of Jason's bows . He also just started taking orders again .
Herb Meland's Pronghorn, one piece or three.
Can't beat a Toelke Lynx in my opinion for an all around great shooter. If you want something a little less 'traditional', then I would try a Morrisison ILF with the Carbon/foam limbs.... these smohe an arrow.
I am shooting a 27 inch MFX 500 with 300 grains up front at 44 lbs at my 26 inch draw and can't believe the speed (by eye) that it is casting an arrow.
I've always wanted to try Black Widow PCH. Perhaps someone who has one could chime in.
Another one I do know someting about is a Cascade Archery bow. Believe it or not they are made as short as 52 inch and there pretty good shooters. Plus Steve Gorr is a great guy.
ACS CX 64" at 60# and 29" draw............ that would be a rocket launcher! :archer2:
58" Dwyer Endeavor. The one in the classifieds right now used to be mine and I regret trading it off for a Centaur, (that might mean something). I draw a solid 29" and it was smoother than most bows I've shot. Dave Dwyer said it only gains 2.5lbs/inch at the end of the draw, and I believe it. I took that bow elk hunting last fall and my arrow setup was this. 57@28 Endeavor, so about 60@29 for me, Beman ICS 340's cut to 31" with 300gr. up front. I paid $850 for it less than two years ago and it's about half that price right now. I'll take one of your Whips as a finders fee!
Wait a second... the Endeavor is a terrible bow but the 60" chinook that I have in the classifieds would be PERFECT for you. ;)
I would go with a 7 Lakes "Short Night" 60" or 62 with 70/75 POC arrows.
It does not seem so anymore but for awhile Whisperstiks were the go to bow for quietness and speed.
I guess they can still be had.
I would take a seriously long hard look at hill country bows. I have a 58" wildcat that I draw to 29 and cant say enough about it .It is my charlton heston bow no doubt. Give Roman and Kenny a call you will not be dissapointed
