Did any of you guys switch hunting bows for this year? more poundage/less poundage? new bowyer? longbow? recurve?; alot of questions but just wondering if you are trying something new; thanks to all; :coffee:
I did'nt switch the brand just the poundage. 53#@28" down to 46#@28". :archer:
Barry,
I bought a new bow that was to heavy for me just starting out #56 . In the meantime I picked up a Bear Kodiak #46 Starting shooting it and working on form. I listed the new bow for sale , but my curiosity got the best of me.
Got the new bow out strung it up got some arrows and starting shooting. I was amazed didn't seem like I was drawing #56 @29.
I went to the Trad bow for sale here and edited my post SOLD, not selling. I'm glad I'm holding on to it. She's a shooter and oh so quite.
Peregrine recurve Robertson 56@29 Coco-bola, bamboo core juniper veneers
So I did go up in weight. This is a GREAT site with a wealth of knowledge here.
Mike :campfire:
i switched to a fred bear montana longbow 48#@25.5" from my old martin rebel recurve 43#@25.5" i like it a lot. took me a while to get used to the longbow, but now i'm shooting better then ever.
come on 9/15
Barry,
I have switched bows many times. Always looking for the next best thing you know. After receiving a new to me Rivers Edge Recurve, I decided to make a change and devote all my time and practice to one bow. I decided to stop all this trading back and forth because I'd finally found the bow that met everything I was looking for: Comfort, speed, quiet, and beauty, all in a wood bow. I surprised myself at actually being able to sell the rest of the bows I had, with little to no regret. Hopefully the time I put into this one bow will pay off this hunting season.
Best of luck to you this year
This will be my first year hunting but I am working on my set up. I will be shooting a Damon Howatt Hunter recurve 60@28. With Magnus broadheads mounted to a finished douglas fir shaft weighing about 600 grains.
I have done a total switch. Last year I hunted with a compound. I got bit by the stick bow bug around Thanksgiving last year and have had more fun shooting a stick bow so I traded the compound and have 3 recurves and 3 long bows.
I picked up an old Silvertip made by Paul with 3 sets of limbs. Know I feel like I have to hunt with it. OK, it's not a hard decision. :)
I just got my fedora take down recurve two days ago. It's 53@29 and 54". I'm looking forward to practicing shooting it out my a treestand. It's 8 inches shorter than my other bow so I hope that makes it a little easier.
I got new setups.I hurt my shoulder and dropped weight a few lbs on most bows during the summer but my heavy bow will still be around 45lbs again this year.
No comment. :biglaugh:
Switched from 52# Carbon/Bamboo R/D Longbow to 41# ACS-CX. I draw a full 29" so it is actually 44# @ my draw length.
I have been hunting with my Black Widow PSA III.
Then I deceided I wanted a nice longbow. So in february I ordered a Horne's Traditionalist. I really like that longbow. Then I went to Denton Hill and had no intention of buying another bow since I already had 2 nice ones. Anyway I ended up coming home with a Treadway longbow. I probably will hunt with one of my new longbows, but I haven't deceided which.

What vermonster13 said. :D
Mike
Absolutely!! I took my training wheels off as of May. Checkmate Crusader Long Bow or bust!!!!
Me too, ordered my kota from tim in december and sold my wheeler in january when it arrived. have not looked back since! kill-um with bocate riser and bamboo limbs, 53# @ 26" shooting a heritage arrows. The awsome news is I drew my archery only elk tag and its 24 days and counting!!!!
I switched from my BW recurve 63# that was getting to be too much weight to a Saluki Ibex 55# that is much easier to shoot comfortably. The Ibex is also alot lighter in the hand which is a plus.

Sold my older Blacktail TD and received my new custom built 55#@28" Blacktail TD from Norm! I just recently acquired a 3 month old RER Vortex 53#@28" that I am enjoying. I don't know if I will be confident enough to hunt with it this year or not. I am shooting it every night and getting more and more comfortable with it....?
Switched from my longbows to a Blacktail Elite Limited edition 49# @ 28" 62" amo Will be hunting with a curve for the first time since 1984 going for caribou. But will have a T/D longbow for backup. Just in case. LOL
New bow for me. Going from compound to tradtional. Shooting a ChekMate(see below) as of right now. Also looking for a r/d longbow in the mid 40#'s.
Switched to a Kabakona River 58" 51@28.
Love it, and bought another!!

Been hunting trad for a few years with various bows, but still bringing home meat with the wheels. Sold my last compound and took my first traditional hog the day that it went on the auction block. My newest bow is my Robertson Vision Quest long bow that I will be hunting most with this year. It's 62" and 52#@28 and a real beauty! I also plan to take game this year with my 45# Hi-speed and 55# hickory self bow! I'm planning a big year.
Not sure whatcha mean, I thought everybody got a new setup, every year.
Actually, I try to get a new rig every time my wife gets a new pair of shoes.
went from a great plains to a new silver tip think i found that one bow. :archer:
Switched bows, switched arrows and switched hands.
Went from right to left handed. Shooting a 50# r/d longbow with CarbonTech Whitetails, 100gr insert and an Eclipse 125gr with 75gr steel adapter. It all finally came together last week. Elk hunt starts Sept. 11
Change is good..........but expensive! :archer:
Got a new selfbow from Eric Krewson....It's SWEEEEEEET!!!!!!
Got my new Centaur in march, can shoot the same arrow pakage out of my 2 morrisons so just had too get use to longbow vs recurve thing, love those kind of problems
I got a great deal on a nice Bear Grizzly (55#) from one our tradgamg members. (Thanks again)
The Grizzly is going with me on my Ontario Bear hunting trip in Sept.
Just picked up a Dryad Hunter 57# up about 5#, trying a strap on bow quiver for the first time. Went back to laminated birch arrows after a brief flirtation with hex shafts. Also I am going to try 4 fletching. Just to top it off I got some of the big Zwickey 4 blades. Changed and upgraded just about everything!
Built myself a new bow for this year. Just shy of my mark of 60#@25.5", I hit 57#. Sweet shooter, new batch of arrows coming up soon, sticking with what I know and what I can sharpen, Magnus 145 grains.

I'll be using my new Striker Stinger 47 lbs. I'll be taking either some homemade arrows with some yet to be purchased Zwickeys, or some old but trusty aluminums with screw in Bears. Not sure what quiver I'll be taking with me.
Down from 56" 55lbs Morrison recurve to 47 lbs 52" Morrison Cheyenne! Also have a used 45lb 56" Bear's Paw that was delivered Yest. Not sure about where it will end up yet. It better be good to beat out that Cheyenne for #1 spot.

Yeper I did, got me a brand new Shrew Classic Hunter. Stayed about the same poundage but went back to using woodies more as well.
Twice as a matter of fact.
Just got a STIK bow longbow that will be my hunting bow.
Dropped some in poundage as I am getting elbow surgery next week.
Of course I did!
I have a Crow Creek Black Feather, 62", 48#@28" that I know will go to IL with me. I have a A&H/OL ACS CX that should arrive tomorrow that may well go, too. The Cocobolo riser was built by OL and the 66", 45#@28" limbs were built by A&H in 4/07. I have some new arrows, 29.5" Beman MFX 500s, on the way to me for the ACS CX. I'll be shooting 125 gr Silver Flame broadheads and it remains to be seen whether or not I install 100 gr inserts, as well.

I've shot alot of bows in 30 some years and I know for one I will be exchanging Back and forth from my Carbon Caster Purpleheart stick with 45/50 pound woodies and magnus heads to My Voodoo Kustom Elk risor Bow. Here I am shooting the new Elk Risor bow 60" 29" draw 60# sweetest shooting bow I ever held. It throws 2020 aluminums with 125grain Steelforce shafts for a total weight of 640 grains with authority!!! I know for a fact that Steve has had and shot so called High End (Junk) that he knows what makes a good bow. Thanks Brother! (http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z232/mrvicattheriver/vc.jpg)
I completely rearranged my bow rack this year. I only have 1 bow that I had last hunting season. I still have to figure out what bow or bows I will be using this year.
Right now it looks like I'll be shooting my BW PLIII,54#'s at 28". Out of all the bows(19) in my stable that's the one I'm best with.
However that could all change by the end of this week as I have an Ancient Spirits Sequoia due to arrive soon.
Northwind Gem @ 52# shooting well. Also waiting for a Northwind Curve to arrive @ 48#. First season totally dedicated to a stick. Really looking forward to it. Mike
I did not hunt last year with a bow because of a broken shoulder. The previous year I killed 3 deer with a Gordt Morey Lightning longbow. I also hunted with an Ancient Spirits Cahokia longbow but didn't score with that one.
This year I'm hunting with an Abbot longbow. I have been shooting a Shrew all summer and a couple weeks ago I starting struggling with that bow real bad. Been shooting the Abbot and decided to start with that. Just got an old Howatt Hunter recurve. That one might see some action as well.
switched from a 56# takedown recurve to a 50# tomahawk diamond ss longbow. i seem to shoot the lighter mass weight bows better. also like the lighter # better too.
It seems to happen every year I have a new bow to shoot. :) I don't know why that happens. ;) The real dilemma occures when I somehow find myself with two new bows in one year. :knothead:
