After more years than I can count of using 3 blade broadheads with great sucess. I thought I'd give 2 blades a try. I'm shooting a 50 lb at my 27" draw Zipper with longbow limbs, Heritage 150s at 28 1/2". With different inserts I can get the 160 grain Magnus and 170 grain Grizzlies to 250 grains which gives me a 580 grain arrow.
That said, my question is for all you 2 blade guys.. Which one will do the most damage and put the most blood on the ground? Oh yeah I can't get one to fly any better than the other ( they both fly great) so that's not an issue.
Whichever one you can get the sharpest would be the one to use! :wavey: I don't have any experience with the grizzly but it's made by someone that knows how to hunt.
The Magnus have a long history of putting game on the ground and I've had good luck with them. I shoot 48 @ 27.
You can't go wrong with either head if you do your part.
Since you already own a zipper I would go with the grizzly!
Never shot a Grizzly but have sent some critters to .the freezer with Magnus heads
Magnus 1 gets my vote for two reasons. They are wider than the grizzly, and I already have several of them.
They are both *excellent* heads and I have shot both. A razor sharp edge with the correct shot placement will equal success....
Having said that, I do prefer the right bevel Grizzly for big game hunting.
YMMV
Shoot straight, Shinken
:archer2:
I prefer the single bevel grizzly. The single bevel causes a larger wound channel than a double bevel two blade, and I can get them scary sharp.
Have you looked into the Abowyers? IMO they are superior to both in quality and they have a nice selection of dimensions and weight.
whatever you can sharpen... If it is sharp then wider is better....
Personally I like the Magnus, but I have a confidence in the original eclipse Broadheads... Experience mostly, but danged if I can get any other sharper...
Have had both and I can get the Grizzlies sharper quicker as they come from the manufacturer with a burr already raised. I will be able to let you know how they perform after this season hopefully. But I have no doubts about them.
If there is some reason that you just have to have the extra penetration of the Grizzly then I believe you would be well served with the larger Magnus.
You'll consistently blow it right through deer so you might as well go with bigger.
Is the Magnus larger than the Kodiak? Width plus length may give the Kodiak the edge. Edge? Sharp, eh?
Both equal as a tool. I like Magnus because they are easier to sharpen- I can get one razor sharp in less than 5 minutes- and even in the field.
I'm quite impressed with the newer Grizzly broadheads. They fly great and sharpen easily !!! Bill Dunn has really made some nice improvements.
I'm not suprised, everything he builds is top notch !!! :notworthy:
