Title: Why is it .........
Post by: moleman on August 20, 2012, 07:52:00 PM
Why is it that we spend great amounts of money on something we may possibly already have?
After yrs of swapping for, and buying some of the finest bows made, it seems Im always pulling my old standby bows off the rack, that are not pretty, or new and usually something picked up for a steal of a price, simply because they work for me.
Anybody else out there fit into this situation?
What is it that drives us to try something new all the time, when we know deep inside, that what we have cant be improved upon simply because it brings out the best in our personal abilities?    :coffee:

I was asking myself that exact question earlier.  I already have 3 dozen Bear Razorheads and I may be going to a heavier head anyways.  I was in the local sporting goods store and they had re packaged razorheads for 9.99 per 6 and bleeders 5.99 per 12 so I bought another dozen and was thinking about going back and buying the last 3 dozen but then I started figuring, "am I ever even going to use up the 4 dozen I already have?"

Did that very thing for several years. Always looking for the "holy grail" of bows. A couple of years ago I just decided to stick with one brand of longbow and one brand of recurve. Pretty much narrowed it down to just the longbow now (I have 3 of the same brand though). Kinda like guys that are married to actresses and super models......guys sees a "new" one and thinks the next one just has to be better!

Seems kinda silly, dont  it, gear that has proven itself time and time again and we just have to try something different.

I have come to have a favorite and I fight the urge everyday not to get another.

If I spent as much time slingin' arrows as I do drooling over pics of "my dream bow," I probably would discover how to shoot the bow I own!

I've had quite a few bows and yet I keep going back to my one recurve and longbow. There will always be a bow I want to try but when I don't like the way it shoots I'll always have my old friends.

I got a bow on trade here from a guy on the classifieds,I knew it was a nice bow but never shot it much, thought about putting it back up for trade just didn't get in a hurry.I ordered some surewoods for my go to bow spine just a little off, didn't have any arrows for this bow bareshafted, turned out great fell in love with my CROOKED STIC AND SUREWOODS shot her with a friend tonite both can't get over how smooth and accurate she is, our other bows just can't compare.Glad I gave her a chance, even my kids know how much respect I have for the CROOKED STIC longbow!!!

I've narrowed it down it's because I know if I can have that "new bow" I could hit any target at 200+ yards with pinpoint accuracy.    :archer2:

I shoot right and left handed.  I have gotten my bows down to four longbows right handed and a 70" Bear Kdiak Special from the mid 50s, two left hand Robertsons, one lefty Grooves and one pignut flat limb dual shelf.  Not only can I not decide whether I am right handed or left handed, I cannot decide which of those I would use as my primary.  I am so jealous of a friend that has only used two identical weight Super Ks since 1973.  Although he did admit to thinking that maybe he should take his old one out of retirement because he was not all that sure about that fast flight string on his new one.

I think it is just in our blood... that is those of us that suffer from the sickness of buying new ones ALL the time???

Very scared that if I develop a "bow-buying habit," it will cut into my gun-buying habit.  (Sorry if that seems non-trad, but addiction is addiction . . .

When it comes to activities I enjoy, I like having things to need, even if I know I don't.
