Today was a great experience for me out on the desert. My neighbor and I found a good pond with some Antelope frequently using it, and we set up the Double Bull Blind. I had high hopes as the sun began to rise and animals started stirring out in the valley. This pond sits up on the bench and so we used a spotting scope to see the Antelope out on the flats, and it made it nice to see them coming to prepare for the shot. We got to watch this nice buck for an hour and decided if he would cooperate and come into range than I was going to shoot.

It took him a full 25 minutes to make his way within bow range. He was extremely cautious of the blind and began circling downwind to water behind us. I had to turn around and get on my knees to shoot out of the port holes in the back of the blind. One accurate arrow and ten second later he expired. He actually spun at the shot so the red on his shoulder is the exit wound. Magnus two blades do the trick. What a great way to start a hunting season. I used a Schafer Silvertip 56lbs and a 525 grain gold tip arrow.

NICE! I don't know much about antelope, and I know a lot of guys on here don't care much about what an animal scores and puttin em in the book and all, but,is that a P+Y class buck? Looks like a big one to me. Congrats

Way to go sir!  Awesome animal!
Nice antelope.
This Doe was fun to see, she was the first to investigate the water hole. She didn't like the Double Bull Blind and began making a "buzzing noise" I guess it's and Antelope bleat but hearing it in real life is kind of strange.

I don't have an adapter for my spotting scope to take photographs, but I really like how these pictures look. I just hold camera in front of the eyepiece, it works sometimes...

When we climbed out of the blind to look for the fallen buck, we took a few pictures as we made our way towards him. I like this photograph as you can see the buck laying just to the right shoulder. I took an Antelope in 2003 off of the same waterhole, on the same day, at the same time as this one.

This next picture is a little bloody, but it shows just how much damage a sharp two blade broadhead will do. At the shot, the buck spun so my arrow entered his last rib and angled forward towards the shoulder. The arrow broke two ribs and the Scapula exiting and was hanging about eight inches as he ran off. It's really nice to see how quickly a well placed arrow will dispatch game.

It just wouldn't be right if I didn't include a picture of my neighbor, and partner in crime for this hunt. He has a real spirit for adventure and that's all it takes to have a good time on hunts.

I really appreciate all of the nice comments and support, Tradgang is awesome. I had the same tag back in 2003 and invited my Grandfather to come out and hunt with me, it was our last hunt before he passed away. Upon returning to hunt again nine years later, I brought with me a cedar arrow and shot it out into the sunset across the desert the night before the hunt started, as a token of respect and love for my Grandpa. It is hard to explain my feelings as I watch that arrow disappear, but I felt a little extra good luck for the following day. The hunt was already complete by returning to the same mountain range and reliving those memories. Taking this buck was just a bonus. Best of luck to you all this fall, be safe and shoot straight.

Absolutely yes. Would not surprise me if that buck was mid 70s, but most certainly over 68". No doubt.
Awesome hunt, congrats!
Thanks for finishing the story. Great photos again. I'll bet your Grandpa was proud of you again.

I agree!! Ill guess 73 and a half after 60 days of drying!!
I rough scored him at 73- 5/8" so that is a darn close guess. We fried some of the backstraps in some olive oil on a hot pan yesterday for lunch. The Antelope tastes better than it looks.
Cool!! Congrats!!
Awesome!
Hi Conner,
Good antelope hunt and great pics. How's the Dorado working out? I noticed you used a Silvertip. Love those bows.

I am glad I came close on the score :D
I am sure you don't need any antelope advice from a midwesternerer but one thing I am REAL good at is eating...
I take all my antelope "burger" meat and make it into breakfast sausage. My daughter actually cried when I told her we had just had our last batch of antelope sausage gravy!
