Title: There are THOSE DAYS then there are those days.
Post by: Turkhunter on August 18, 2012, 05:05:00 PM
Yesterday I went and shot 3 diffrent shooting sessions and no matter what was going on or how distracting the kids were it seemed I couldnt miss. I think I could have closed my eyes and nailed the bulls eye out to 25yds. I was having one of THOSE DAYS. Today however I just finished a shooting session where it took me several shots to get kinda dialed in and then it was a struggle just to shoot within a paper plate out to 20yds. It seems I was having one of those days. What makes us do that?   :dunno:

If anyone figures it out please post it cause I would like to know as well. The bad thing is that I have those days more often than not.

I just told Bruce (Smoke1953) the other day,  "If you are looking for your next humbling experience, take up traditional archery".  That was during one of 'those' days the day after one of "THOSE" days.  At least 'those days' guarantee that we will never get bored at this sport.

Look at it a different way:  those days make THOSE days more special!

Doesn't make those days any less frustrating though    :banghead:

Lastnight I had one of the worst practice sessions ever. As season approaches I tend to shoot way to much and over think everything.

This morning I had to help setup one of the local bowshoots. I almost didn't take my bow. I woke to a cool, perfect morning and shot great.

What a difference a few hours makes.

Traditional archer can definatly be a humbling expierence. I work with a bunch of guys that shoot wheel bows. We often shoot at break time above our shop. One of the owners has graciously provided us trad guys (there are 2 of us) with a round bale of hay to shoot into. They(wheel bow guys) often wonder why we want to shoot so close. The other day I let a couple of them shoot my Kanati longbow from about 10steps away. One of them hit 18in above the spot we were shooting the other guy hit about 3ft in front of the bale from 10yds. After almost all the wheel bow guys have shot our stickbows we no longer get any flack from them. They think we are archery legends.

One of my buddies used to say, "When you think you have traditional archery COMPLETELY figured out...

... just shoot one more arrow!!!"   :saywhat:

When I have a lot on my mind, and things are not going well, my shooting is always off. If my mind is clear I can't miss, each to his own. Good post.

For me, the one thing ive learned about " those days " is that its just best to put my gear away and find something else to do for a few hrs or the next day. I hate to admit it, but being one of little patients,( better now than i used to be ) i can tell you that longbows are more aerodynamic than recurves when propelled across the barn lot with equal amounts of energy.

One of those days when I shoot, and have shot and it doesnt make any difference, cause I will be older than dirt. I will be an archery legend regardless........(cause that was my passion)
