I recently did some horse trading for a bow that was covered in camo tape after I got it home I peeled some of it off and lo and behold a beautiful martin hatfield take down appeared now my problem is does any one know how to get rid of the sticky residue left by the tape? I have already tried rubbing alcohol, windex, and nail polish remover to no avail. My next question is I have heard of limb covers and does anyone know where I could get some? thanks for your help Delin
Acetone and 3 Rivers
Acetone will work, but be careful with it. Don't let it sit on the limb or it can eat the finish. Might try Goo Gone or some such product available at hardware stores.
I have had excellent results removing tape residue using WD40. Give it a try, it might surprise you.
I had the exact same problem with that old duct tape style camo....left on for years and years. Go to wally world and get a small bottle of "oops!", soke a cotton ball, let it sit on one spot for a bit then start rubbing. No affects to the finish on my Dad's old AMF recurve. It was still work, but easier than anything else I tried, and that was everything.
I'm with Jwingman... bet you have some WD-40 in the house. Try it!!! :thumbsup:

I bought a second-hand Bear recurve for my first bow, had camo tape on the limbs... I soaked the whole bow in luke-warm water -- in the bath tub -- for a few minutes until the sticky stuff was loosened up, and I wiped it off with a towel (I put the towel in the laundry, and the sticky stuff washed right out). I had to rub a bit to get all of that gunk off, but at least I didn't have to risk using harmful chemicals on my "new" bow..... Just make sure the water is not HOT and you don't leave the bow in so long that it takes a warp.
i use the wd-40 or the goo gone on yard sale bows i pick up with camo tape on them, i got one all cleaned up and painted it camo last night....... :knothead:
This may sound silly and I haven't used it on a bow (and if it is a bad idea, someone chime in), but I used to remove stickers and the gooey residue from things with a light coat of mayonaise, letting it soak for a little bit.
Other than that it is goo-gone or WD-40.

I have used old reliable: Lighter fluid! Done this many times to remove tape residue. Any brand will work. Just put directly on the bow and rub the goo off with a piece of old towel (terrycloth). Works great. I always wipe the bow down with a damp rag after though, to remove any smells.
I would advise you to stay away from strong solvents (acetone, mek etc.)
Even using lighter fluid, I would do this outdoors or in a well vented area, (naturally, away from flame or sparks! LOL)

Lighter fluid is mainly naphtha, so it is a strong solvent but it should work as well as wd40, goo gone, 91 percent isopropyl alcohol etc..
