I'm looking for options on the above in a mid weight ranges 145-175 gr. I would like something durable like the abowyer or tuffhead but not so heavy. Single or double bevel. I have stos with inserts but they weigh 205 gr. I also have some stingers but would like other options.
Thanks
Terry,
I would look at the Grizzlies. I believe you can get them down to 120 grains... Nocking point has some LW 130 graiin glue on's in stock...
You going after Large critters in the near future??? :bigsmyl:
My STOS heads are 130 gr and the steel adapter makes them 205, so I think these would be the same.
The tapered aluminum inserts are plenty durable for deer hunting and will put you in the 175 range with your Stos heads.
I use Deltas and the big Magnus-1 two blades on the aluminum adapters and I have never had any issues.
Get some Titanium adapters from Abowyer. They also make a 120g Bonehead light and 140g Antelope light.
You might like the VPA Penetrator. They have one in 150grn.
Yup I agree with SteveO. You can get Abowyers in the weight range you're looking for. Use their aluminum inserts (or titanium if you have extra cash laying around) and you should have no problem getting where you want to be.
You can get the Bonehead Light (120 grains), the Bonehead (145 grains), or the Javelina Light (140 grains). Then put them with aluminum adapters at 25, 35, or 43 grains. This would put you anywhere from 145 grains to 188 grains.
My old Bear greenies come in between 148 and 152 without the bleeder blades.
I'm not a fan of the short wide heads like the VPA or the Bonehead Light. I may have to bend a little. I can put the titaniums with my STOS and get 165gr
I am trying the Simmons line this year. The Treeshark looks good. There is a Utube video on how to get them scapel sharp, which I will be trying when my concave Jewel stick gets here. Just another option.
They tell me Jerry Simmons has killed over 500 Whitetails with a bow. He ought to know something.
We have a couple screw of in Tuskers that fall in your range, the price is right too! We also stock Magnus Stinger 150 two blades, a real quality head.
Braveheart Archery (http://www.braveheartarchery.us)
Eclispe 150 very solid head. Fly great out of my setup and easy to sharpen. I also bought the VPA 2 blade broadhead. They are tough but I like the additional cutting surface on the Eclispe
Thanks, Randy Chamberlin
The Eclipse single bevels are on my radar as well the the scirocco line.
Try out the grizzly 120 grains with a 50 grain titanium adaptor and 5 grain weight washer. This combo is indistructible and you can get grizzlies super sharp.
Are the Grizzly 120's as durable as the heavier ones
Glue on zwickeys130 grain plus43 grain screw in adapter.
150 grain Magnus Stinger or the Werewolf 150s and 175s.Steelforce Phathead.

VPA make a Screw in 150, 175 and 200gr 2blades

Simmons 175 grain screw in Tiger Shark.RC
Another Eclipse single bevel vote here. I think you have to get the single bevels straight from Eclipse. His Werewolf head is nice too.
Lifetime guarantee also. Can't beat that.
