Hey guys I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question, but I was wondering about the GFA pullovers. Anybody in the South own them; if so what thickness do you recommend since bow season can be pretty stifling down here, and winter doesn't get all that cold either.
Clayton, I'm sure if you called Teresa Asbell she could also help you out with that. Real good folks to do business with.
Clayton,
I'd say give Teresa a call. I was up there recently and noticed she has some lighter weight wool that she might be able to make you a pullover out of, but you'll have to ask and hash that out with her. She is a SUPER lady and wonderful to deal with. Good luck.
I traded for one Clayton. The one I received is what I would call a medium weight wool - the wind will get through it easily and it's of course unlined so I would say it'll work for you from 65 degrees down and of course get it big enough to add underneath to match temps and you'll be fine
I ordered one a couple years ago. I love it, the hood is a little large for my tastes but that's petty. mine is lightweight and roomy. it serves its purpose for sure. and just right for the weather down here. D.

The pullovers are awesome, and the style makes them nice and warm on a crisp day. For times when you might have a range of temperatures to deal with, consider the Asbell Zippered Jacket. This pattern is Silent Stalker Green, I have them in stock.
I have a couple of pieces of wool from Ms. Asbell and like them a lot. One is hooded and the other is not. They are medium weight and are just fine for most cool days in GA. If it is windy, a wind break layer might be needed. They are roomy enough for effective layering, which is, in my opinion, one of the greatest characteristics of this style clothing. I most definitely recommend it. Plus, Theresa is a very nice lady, and you will enjoy doing business with her.
I have the vest and I love it. I can wear it in sub-freezing temps over merino wool base layer and heavy wool military sweater and I don't get cold. When it is normal fall morning weather I can wear it over a shirt of appropriate weight and it adds just the right warmth without bulking up my arms and shoulders. The super large hood is one of the coolest features because you can wear it over a brimmed hat and have sun protection and it casts a nice shadow over your face for concealment. Gotta love em.
I appreciate the input fellas. I've heard nothing but great things about the Asbells and look forward to doing business with them. I'm afraid their products are the type you can't just have one of though...
Very true comment Clayton....Her pullovers are like Lays potatoe chips...No one can have just one!!!
I have a hooded pullover in Evening Stand Green. It got plenty cold last year here in Texas (at least for me; it was regularly in the 40s and 50s many days I hunted late in the season -- I'm used to the 100s we're having now, so anything below 60 is 'freezing' to me, LOL).
I enjoyed wearing it a lot; fit well, kept me warm, and even when it started to warm up throughout the day (into the 60s usually), I didn't overheat much (this included having merino wool base layers on under it). Wool breaths well, so it helps regulate your temperature.
As someone mentioned, you might look into the new zippered version; when you feel yourself getting hot, just unzipping it a bit should help (I do this with some First Lite 1/4 zip shirts I have, really makes a difference and doesn't require me to completely remove the item [generating noise and movement] to cool down just a bit).
