I am wanting to get my first ILF setup. I want a metal riser. The 2 I am considering are the new VPA riser in 13 inch or the ******** titan 17 inch. I have a 27 inch draw with my current recurve. I want the strung bow to be 56 to 58 inches tip to tip. Which riser will be best? This will be a hunting bow but I am very interested in performance and accuracy.
17" riser and short ilf limbs for more mass in the riser, or 13" and mediums. The shorts fit your draw length better.
I have a 17 inch riser with a total length of 58 inches. I pull 26 inches and it is perfectly balanced for me. I like the additional mass, which helps with stabilization. I would also rather have a little longer bow than a shorter one since it is smoother drawing and more forgiving.
Go with the 17 I think it will leave you with more limb options unless u have a very short draw length
Depending on how you hold your bow, the short riser may block out part of your sight picture. If you shoot with your bow vertically, the very short sight window on a short riser often blocks out part of the target at close range.
Sounds like 17 inches it is. Now should I be looking at any others or is the TT Titan the way to go? If cost was not an issue. Limb questions will be next.
the titan is a nice riser it will be my next purchase I shot one at etar and loved it
I prefer the connection system on the dalaa, limbs won't pop out accidentally when unstrung.
I've had my Titan since '08 and have yet to see a limb pop off.
Jason, when unstrung I have had limbs fall out of the ilf connection at inopportune times. Like when in the truck or bicycling down a trail to a stand. Maybe the Titan is different but with several other manufacturers it has happened to me.
If it's unstrung anyway ......... just take it apart , put it in a case , and put it back together when you get there. JMTC
Nice talking with you and I think the 17" titan with a set of our ACS-RC limbs in medium will be a great bow for what you want to do.
Mike
I draw 27" also and have always prefered a 17" riser and limbs to make either a 58" or 60" bow. 17" riser just seems alot more stable shooter for me
Katman,
That makes sense. I had a Hoyt Avalon Plus years ago, and the limbs would fall right out when it was unstrung. The Titan has a lot tighter tolerances. As a matter of fact, I actually push-pull string my Titan (kids, please don't try this at home).
MCM, I think wingnut pegged your combo, excellent products and good people to deal with the folks at Dryad.
Any benefit to the 13" riser if you want to go with a shorter bow say under 58"? Say you had a 28" draw and wanted a comfortable draw for a 54" or 56" bow, wouldn't a 13" riser fit the bill?
Thanks wingnut and everyone else. I'm pretty excited to get one, just need to sell my compound first. I will likely go with the 17 in Titan and medium dryad RC-ACS limbs.
I just ordered the 17" with short limbs for my 26" draw. It makes a 58" recurve for me. I hope to be shooting it on Monday.
That is what I have and I believe you will be well satisfied.
It would a 17"er for me........

Very good advice and something anybody not familiar with this information, should be, before buying an unfamiliar bow.
I have a titan 17" and love it. great size for me since I like 60" bows, shot it as a 58" for alittle and it was a good shooter but not as good for me.
I have a 17" Titan 2 with set of WW Sebastian Fluke carbon limbs on the way. Mine will be long 40's and the bow is 45@28 and 62" long. I should have it early next week. I have never handled an ILF bow so I am anxious to see what these animals are all about.
Another vote for the Dalla. I like the limb attachment system better and think it is potentially quieter since the limbs reat on a rubber pad to absorb vibration.
I've got a 17" DAS riser with Bob Morrison's super short MAX I limbs. Couldn't be happier. Makes a 56" bow and at my 28" is very smooth, fast and stable...very quiet as well. My wife has the same limbs on her riser and she draws 26"....fastest set of limbs she has shot.
