I was out shooting tonight under a spot light. I didn't realize one of my mfx's had splintered. Upon release I felt a pain and realized I drove a sliver of carbon through my finger. Just had the wife clean it out good. Beware.
Always a danger using carbons. Wood arrows can do the same thing. Be careful.

I just had a Easton Axis break on me, Just had the string slap my arm.
OUCH!!! thanks ill start paying more attention
If you don't get it all out soak your finger in vinegar. It will open it up better.
Good post and a good reminder about saety. Last year, just for h*** of it, I bent one of my carbons for safety. It literally snapped in half. From then on, I bend all of my arrows before shooting.
you got lucky sir! Carbons will mushroom out and gave lots of pieces go through you hand.
I know a guy who drove an entire length of broken shaft through the web of his hand between his thumb and forefinger.
The big problem is that they don't break like the others when damaged. If they broke or bent like wood and aluminum, the evidence of dammage would be visable.
Too many people take for granted that they are difficult to break and don't check them often enough.
There not more dangerouse just because they are carbons and they don't blow unless they have been damaged.

I have been shooting carbons for years, seen a lot of carbons hit rocks etc and break, but never seen any injuries mentioned.
I have only had one carbon break, ever. A groundhog (I am certain it was part grizzly) reached around and bit one in half that I had punched through his shoulders.
Good Post! All shaft materials have their ups and downs... Carbon should be checked by flexing the shaft, from both ends, before being shot and again after a shot... Remember that arrow wraps can and will hide a hairline crack! Same, same with wood...
