Title: advise from pronghorn pro's
Post by: Michael Pfander on August 12, 2012, 08:30:00 PM
I just got back from my last scouting trip before the season starts here.  I saw something that I haven't seen before; a herd of bucks.  This close to the rut I've never seen 10 bucks [one of which was quite nice] all in one group.  Usually by now they are all around the herds that the big boys have gathered up.  So my question is whats up?

I see groups of bucks all the time. I watchd 7 bucks drink in front of one of my blinds a couple days ago. Rut is not on for another month here.

This will be my 5th pronghorn tag in 29 years here in AZ.  In the past at this point, the dominate buck had gathered a herd of does and fawns just as now and was already starting to defend them from the smaller ones.  This past weekend the herds had been gathered, the dominate buck was herding does and sniffing them with no interlopers to deal with.  We found 3 different herds with the same situation.
