Had to get help figuring this photo thing out but here goes. I received my Dave Johnson longbow a little over a week ago. Dave was a pleasure to work with and does a neat job of keeping in touch with you! I have made selfbows and bamboo backed bows for years but this will probably be my only time at buying a custom bow for myself. I chose Dave to do this for me. Here is my bow as it came out of the oven!

Here is the bow cleaned up. I wanted a vintage Dave Johnson longbow and this is a myrtle riser!

That myrtle has some character. I ordered one Friday. He said he took three orders the day before.
Dave got her done and it was one HOT summer to do it! More pics coming! (http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f157/scordell/SHANESBOW3.jpg)

I want to be able to pass this bow on to one of my kids someday. Named it Remember When so they would remember the memories! I wanted a vintage Dave Johnson longbow. Black glass back, white glass belly, myrtle handle, and three lams of red cedar! The bow came in a little over 50# and Dave added and inch (67" ntn) for my 29" draw. The bow's cast is very impressive. It is a lot of fun to shoot! Thanks Dave.
Awesome looking bow!
Very nice!!!
Beautiful. I like the way Dave tillers his bows. They look like they bend almost to the handle.
Shane, Very nice bow!!
Also really enjoyed meeting you when you where here in MN. I'm still waiting on my new David Miller -- someday
Arne
Really nice looking bow Shane. Congrats!
Awww, man, just when I thought I had gotten over the idea of ordering one of these! :help: Beautiful bow!
Thanks everyone--It is a beautiful bow with great cast. Cahaba I talked to Dave on that very subject. Arne, will show you this bow next summer and hopefully we can shoot them both! Been checking on those MN temps and wishing we were still there! Very hot and bad drought here in KS. Take care---Shane
How cool is this? .....Way!... I'm saying.....
Congratulations on an awesome bow.
I love mine!!

PS: This is my 1st post in a long while, please forgive me my absence and allow me to slip back in where I still love traditional bows.
Good to hear from you Mudd and thanks for your input! Coach
REALLY BEAUTIFUL!!!
Glad to see more of his work showing up. Been wanting one for a while now. I hate selling things to get other things, but in this case I may have to suspend my rule.
Thanks for posting it for other to enjoy. Feel free to post more pics if you are so inclined... :)

I bought Lambow's (Eric's). It's a work of art. It's almost too beautiful to shoot...almost. Man do they shoot.
Nice bow!
Dave Johnson cedar bows are works of art...really.
LOVE mine....
Nice bow and glad to see you on Brother Mudd.RC
Coach, she's a beautiful bow.
Mudd, good to see you back!
Hi Matt
I'm glad you've got that monster bow of mine. I'd like to see a picture of it myself.
Dave
Pics for sure!
Matt I'd say that what you have is somewhat of a collectors item since those wts aren't being made any more.
Please post pictures!
Thanks for the "welcomes" folks!
God bless,Mudd
PS: A bad attitude and a flat tire have a lot in common in that you're not going to get very far with either until you change it.
Congratulations, Coach, on a fine looking and shooting bow! What brace height works for you?
Dave recommended 5 3/4" brace height. That is right about where I am at. I am nocked at 3/16" and am on the top of the nock. It shoots Easton 400 Gamegetters (2117) with 175 grains up front real well. The arrows are 30.5 BOP. It also shoots Easton 500 Gamegetters (2016) with 125 grains upfront well. I am also shooting some heavy tapered cedars with 190 grains upfront like missles. I am not sure of the spine on these cedars but am thinking they were around 65# before I tapered them. Coach
Should have added I am drawing 29". Coach
For those of you with Dave Johnson bows do you know if he will use anything other than Myrtle in the handle. I haven't spoken to him yet, but I have a special build in mind. Thanks.
Call Dave and ask. He is very helpful and easy to talk too. My bow got its first blood Sunday. Nice doe that went about 40 yds, double lunged. Guess you could say the bow and I both did our job! This bow will always do its job if I do mine! Still working on the buck tag! Coach
Congratulations on your Dave Johnson bow. Mine has been with me on each trip to the woods this fall. Haven't been able to get it bloody yet but I sent this note to Dave:
Hope this note finds you and Pat doing well. I've had one opportunity to hunt this fall with Tahlequah, but haven't had the opportunity to loose an arrow as yet. Came close last Friday evening.
I was about 30 yards away watching a water hole that showed signs of hog activity. I was set up about 12 yards from a heavily traveled path back in a comfy little ground blind that I had built of dead limbs and brush. About 7:10pm I saw a lone hog come directly across an open field and head straight to the opposite side of the tank. Too far for a shot. A couple of minutes later, three more hogs including a couple of sows with eight little piggies not much larger than footballs followed. All went straight to the other side of the pond.
I watched them for a few minutes and noticed they were working their way around the pond towards my side. So, I decided to sneak down for a possible closer shot. There was considerable cover between me and the pond so I knew that if I stayed low to the ground I could get with 15 yards of the water and maybe have a good opportunity at "bringing home the bacon."
Just as I got set up, I heard this very loud snort and grunt. I knew I'd been had. Directly behind me stood a huge boar. I guessed him at about 275-300 pounds standing on the game trail that I'd been watching. He turned and ran back they way he'd come. With all the commotion the others ran the opposite direction. I could only stand there with Tahlequah and laugh at myself for being so stupid as to get busted like that.
Take care and tell your bride that Danny said "Hi".
And I got this reply from Dave:
THAT'S A GREAT STORY DANNY. GUESS YOU'LL JUST HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO CALL 'EM IN!
IT'S BEEN QUITE A WHILE SINCE I HEARD FROM SOMEONE WHO USED ONE OF MY BOWS TO HARVEST A WILD PIG, SO HANG IN THERE AND MAKE ME PROUD OF YOU.
PAT SENDS HER BEST WISHES TO YOU MY FRIEND, ALONG WITH MINE.
DAVE
As you can see my Dave Johnson is named "Tahlequah".
