been playing with a piece of brigalow that i cut last sept.
it ended up being 61 1/2" NTN and 65#@27"
i been shooting it and it has survived almost 100 shots. just got to make it a rawhide string and get some of these bamboo shafts i cut turned into tuned arrows.

i finished it with duck fat. we had roast duck a couple of weeks ago and we saved the fat. i just rubbed it in. "and the water still beads"
Nice job! Great looking bow and wood! I never heard of that wood before. How does it compare to osage?
Thats a cool bow. Great job.
good job!!!!!
shedrock- brigalow is a native australian tree. Acacia harpophylla. it's pretty dense stuff.
no idea how it compares to osage. i've never even seen a piece of osage.
Nice job! I would never have guessed it was your first selfbow.
Great job Clint, especially for your first!
nice!
Oh no, now you're going to get hooked on the primitive side of traditional!
Not a bad thing at all. Can't wait to see your first game animal you take.
That's a very nice bow!! Congrats. Thank you for sharing
That's awesome!! Great job! My first one got a small crack in the limb after 500 shots or so I sealed it with super glue but still have to wrap the crack in sinew.
Chad
Nice work....and I really like that wood! Good luck with it.
Great Job, once you go Self Bow, all others are just not the same.
looks great, Clint! that's a real nice lookin' piece of wood and it looks tough...like a iron wood! Good luck!
Did some looking and found that this wood is more dense then osage. So it should make an excellent selfbow.
Nice Job!!
Mike
wingnut- do some research on red and grey ironbark selfbows. it's more dense than brigalow.
we have some great selfbow timbers here in australia that's for sure.
Very nice Clint. Great wood grain. Those tips scare me. Looks like the string would just slip off.
Great looking bow, as well as the wood. I agree with KentuckyTJ on the tips, they look awful shallow.
Very nice!
Nice ! Always a pleasure to see your posts. Great to see someone making selfbows down your way.
:clapper: Spectacular looking bow!
Very nice Clint.... called a local tree service here in Central California to see if they have seen any trees here... we have just about every other plant that grows in Australia. He said he is not sure but would ask around???
I did find some Red Ironbark "Eucalyptus sideroxylon" that I'll give a go... stuff is all over California :)
That is some very cool looking wood... well done Clint :)
very nice, Mike
Great job Clint!!!! Now go shoot a critter with it and post up the story and pics.
Congrats on a job well done, my friend.

Very nice bow, Clint, The wood is beautiful, the tiller is about perfect and the draw weight should work on them tough ole' buffs you have down under.
My only concern would be the shortness of the pin nocks. If drawn just a bit farther the string could slide off. It would be an easy fix if you decide to.
Nice job on the bow, and I like the wood. Good luck with it.
Bow looks great Clint, beautiful wood.
:clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
That tiller looks about perfect.
Love that wood.
Looks nice. Enjoy.
GREAT TILLER for a first bow or fortieth! good looking all around, congrats!
I hope it works well for you. report for us when it draws blood.
i actually made the nocks a bit shorter than they were. you guys might be right. when i get a rawhide string made for it i'll reassess them as the rawhide loop will most likely be thicker and have less nock overhang.
cheers, guys.
That bow is awesome. I love primitive, I built my first selbow last year and hunted with it. No meat on the ground but trying to get within 15 yds of deer was the best fun I have had in a long time.
It seems funny but in the last 2 years I have gone from an ACS Longbow, HH Longbow, to a selbow with cane arrows. If this keeps up then next year I will be deer hunting with a large rock!!
