I really want to get a long bow and was wondering what you guys think are great reflex deflex longbows for the money. I am looking for a simple bow that has a smooth draw at 29 inches. Thanks for your opinions!
Andrew
Try a JK Traditions great bow for the money.
He is a sponsor here.
It all depends on what you want to spend and what length you want your bow. I would start with that criteria first for the R/D Longbow category because they will all be pretty smooth at 29" draw. You will get as many answers that vary akin to asking for an opinion on a reliable car. So, how much do you want to spend and would you be willing to purchased "pre-owned"?

dollar for dollar they would be hard to beat. I sold one a few months ago, only because it was about 5# over my comfort zone.
Yup
Big Jim bows great bows!!
Shrew bows and the Tanjavur (both made by Gregg Coffey)are excellent.
Love my Bamabow. Smooth drawing. You can pick up a new one under $500. And around $300 used. I've also shot Omegas a lesser known product from a bowyer in PA. Very inexpensive, basic , hard hitting shooters. I'm having an Omega built now, I can post it up once I get it in a few weeks.
The Dwyer Endeavor is worth a look at. A great shooter and Dwyer is a sponsor here. Someone currently has a beauty listed on the classified here on this site. (58" Dwyer endeavor longbow 57#@28)
Do yourself a favor and check out the TwoTracks Longwalker made by Chuck Deshler. Great value, performance and craftsmanship. Some of the finest finish work available anywhere.
Ever here of Leon Stewert? check him out...his bows are awesome! Might also check out a Pronghorn too by Herb Meland. PaLongshank
Big River bows, John McDonald bowyer.
don dow
Pronghorn
Tradgang Classifieds.... try a few before you take the plunge with a new one.
My test drives took me to Big Jims (he draws 31"s) Thunderchild and Buffalo Bow but it may be different for you.
Good luck and have fun
Hi All,
My wife and I both shoot Tomahawk bows.....check with 3 Rivers Archery, one of our sponsors.
Everyone has his favorite. I'm no different. I'm a Toelke Whip fan. They can be found in the classifieds for about half off.
As others have said, you need to try a few and see what's best for you, but...............
There is a screaming deal on a Thunderhorn Coup Stick in the classifieds. Great shooting bows, with fit and finish second to none.
So many excellent bows out there, but I can only speak for lost creek. Beautiful bows that shoot straight and smooth!
I'm a Tomahawk fan myself. They are a little bit on the high end of the market as far as price but they shoot great!
I'd say a Proghorn, super stable, super accurate and plenty quick.
But you can get a used Robertson on the Classifieds for under $200 lately! Sorry, but you cant beat that.

Liberty Edge is a great longbow. Ken
Wes Wallace, Robertson Stykbow, or 21st Century.
A Bear Montana wins!~
Alot of other bows posted are good but some are pricey.
A Montana is a heck of a bow for the price. I got my first whitetail with one when I was seeing if this trad stuff was for me.
Kohannah Fury, Mike Treadway, Holm-made,Don Dow, Martin Savanah, these are all excellent and won't break the bank.
How much money are we talking about?
Bamabows Hunter Expedition at www.bamabows.com (http://www.bamabows.com)
Omega longbows, havnt shot a RD longbow that fire an arrow as fast and flat as this one.
I would have to go with Holmmade osprey for the money! Centuar if you want to spend more! Everyone has thier own preferance but that Osprey is a shooter for the money!
Call Jim Gainey at Black Creek Bows
Pronghorns are hard to beat
You should definitely check out Kegan McCabe's Omega longbows. A lot of value for the money......and they are fast indeed. They don't have fancy wood, usually oak riser & hard maple limb cores. Don't expect the kind of finish you'll get on a $500 bow, but they are built to hunt and shoot fast. http://www.omegalongbows.webs.com/
Chad Holm makes a very good longbow. I have 30" draw and picked up on of his Goshawks, I really love it.

FYI: He is currently taking orders to be filled in January of 2013
I want to stick to the 300 to 400 range. I really like Bamabows and Don Dows. Thanks for the help guys!Could you post some pics so we can all drool? haha
I have 2 R/D bows by Chad Holm, an Osprey and a Goshawk.....tough to beat for the money. I have a Kohannah that's real nice also. Monday I have a used Northern Mist Baraga coming to the stable and I'm betting it's gonna be nice as well.

Agree x2 awsome bow. Easy to get one. But if I could wait, I'd order a NM superior. But again not for a first .
I got a Navajo Stick Caddo model from Roy Hall. I don't know what his new ones are like mine is about 15 years old. It's a good shooter. Fast and quiet.
Ross
I do work at cabelas so i could pro form a bear for half off...
Osprey by CHad Holm is tough to beat for the money. He makes a fast quiet bow that shoots VERY well. I haven't shot them all, but I have shot quite a few and I really like his bows.
If I didn't, I wouldn't own 5 of them!

im actually planning a custom from him to go with my current omega, phenoilic 2 piece take down with curly maple limbs 47# @ 27". I want the same limb material he uses now because its got power. He will do them but they will cost more cash. hoping I can order this next year because I LOVE his design and they work for me.
Big River or Holm Made
Holm-Made Osprey is my go to bow! It fits your hand, fast, quiet, and deadly accurate. Buy one and you don't have to look any more. I shoot 45# at my draw and CX H150 at 570 grains. Ken Denton
I just piled them in at 20 yards with my 46#@28" Longwalker from TwoTracks. Compare his prices and reviews against the others. You should be impressed!
May as well take a close look at Thunderstick bows too. The MOAB is my favorite, but more money than you are looking to spend. Some great deals on most of the bows mentioned above here in the TradGang classifieds! Good luck in your "bow" hunt! Mike

X2. Although I am somewhat biased in my opinion. ;) :goldtooth:
Not sure what your wallet can afford but I have been shooting a Morrison Shawnee longbow for several years now and can't see myself hunting with anything else. I "play" with other bows, but when it comes to putting meat on the table, my Morrison is always in my hand. They really are killers for sure.. ~Steve
For the money, if price is the main factor, the Omega as stated is about $235 plus shipping, his bows are plain but they are smooth a fast, You can get a Bama Expedition Hunter for about $479 very smooth and is available in 58in to 62in Models! I own a Expi very smooth shooting R/D longbow!
Pics of my Bamabow Royal Expidition 50#@28". 35 yd group I shot, and an Apple I "cored" at 20 yds on a good shooting day! Picked it up at 1/2 cost of brand new. My favorite bow!

I like quiet bows with no hand shock...that's why I shoot Big River Longbows! JMO....no matter what the cost I think they are the best bow out there, I would put them up against any $1000 bow thats made today, and the BR's are half the cost! Once again thats just my opinion!
Not just your opinion Joe. Another Big River fan here. My go-to, when I have to make the shot, is one of my Big River R/D's or the smoothest Hill style bow I have ever shot - also a Big River.
Thundersticks get my vote, waiting for my new one now. should be here this week. Very stable bows.
Sarrels! (And he is having a 30% off sale this weekend which really makes them one of the best for the money)

For the money, it's awful hard to beat a Lost Creek Bow...
pre-owned Centaur!

I like the holm-made Chads bows shoot as good as any Ive tried. Great guy to work with.
Did that give you enough suggestions to start with??? :D
Really hard to buy a bad longbow if you buy from a reputable bowyer. That said I love my Cari-Bow.
I'll throw in one that has not been mentioned.
ST. Joe River longbow - they are a sponser here, take a look at their web site.
It's a unique design that handles very well.
I've been impressed with the accuracy, quietness, stability and speed.
Jeff Findish used to make a sweet shooting, hard hitting R/D bow, but he only made 64" amo bows at that time. My draw was a little long for it, or I would have never bought another bow. They shoot fanastic. It was the first bow I purchased when I walked away from wheels, and I've owned many, many bows since and I still reference him anytime I see a R/D thread. He made a custom bow for my son that you just wouldn't believe. Shoot me a pm if you want to contact him and I will try to help you out. The bow I purchased cost me $250, (several years ago) NEW with a 1 year tip to tip warranty. It was also a FF capable bow.
