Title: shock collar
Post by: TURKEYFOOTGIRL on August 10, 2012, 12:27:00 AM
If someone could make up a shock collar that zapped me every time I don't come to a complete anchor I would love it.  I have struggled for years with hitting full draw in pressure situations and think this would help.  Lol    :archer2:

I'm sure you can find a volunteer to help you with that. Are you married? My wife would jump at the chance to zap me.

Chris i think i could rig up 110v extension lead and a push button that your girl would love to puch every time you dont make it to full draw ...

On another note i think what might help is a change in your shot sequence do you have a conclusion at the end off your shot .Thanks Shane

A lighter bow may help

I'm still laughing because I watched this being done. A shotgunner at our club was lifting his head at the shot. One of his buddies put an e-collar on his calf and every time he lifted his head he got "tapped". 3 times and you couldn't pry his face away from the comb.

Guy still can't break a bird, though   :)

I've been working hard on this too, I just try to keep the target in my peripheral vision till I know I'm at full draw and then pick a spot, works real good when I do my part:)

I'd recommend trying an exercise that Jay Kidwell teaches. Get his book "Instinctive Archery Insights" or a copy of the DVD "Masters of the Barebow 4" if you are more of a "piture is worth 1,000 words" type.

This one simple idea could solve what you've been fighting completely... with no Z=A=P to the neck required!

It works very, very well, and your shooting will improve.

Will look into jays book.
Yeah it seems I do fine with lots of practice and than I shoot in front of a group or at an animal and I can feel my hand lock up a little early,  happens with the light bow too.
But yeah I bet my wife would love to have the control on that bad boy!

The way to fix this is to fix your form.  And the best way to fix your form is to work the separate components of your form by focusing on those aspects and not worrying about hitting anything.  IOW--you need to forget about shooting targets and hitting things for about 6 weeks and go pound a blind bale.

I know that's not very fun, or appealing.  But if you really want to improve its the way its done.

Confident execution of your shot only comes through good form.  And good form is a function of seven or eight separate but interrelated things--grip, stance, back tension, string hand placement, follow through etc.

Your shooting is inconsistent because your form is not consistent.  And you don't fix something like this by practicing the same thing.  You need to go back to the basics and work on the components of your form until they come together and you can repeat the actions with perfection.

Archery, like all shooting sports, is a DISCIPLINE.  If you want to get good at it you need to work on form.   Just like a baseball player works on his throwing form or a golfer works on his swing...  form, form, form.

It will set you free.   But its a pain in the butt to pound a blind bale for 6 weeks every day too.  Do you have the discipline it takes?

The Local meeting of Snap Shooter/NOT coming to full draw ANONYMOUS will now come to order:  :banghead:   always pretty. If I were to change 1 thing it would be GETTING A SOLID ANCHOR POINT & STICK WITH IT     :archer2:  >>>--> Old dog hard to learn new styles/tricks

I would recommend trying the push release. I use it to control my target panic and it makes you come to anchor every time. You can order it through this website.  http://pushrelease.com/

I started snap shooting and not coming to full anchor as well. Its been very frustrating to break this habit. For some reason my shooting is not too bad....probably due to some consistentency... but could be alot better if I just came to full anchor.

I never hit anchor until I watched a couple of the Rick Welsh tapes and started touching the arrows top feather to my nose. It took me a month or so to get it down but I have a pretty consistent anchor now.

Chris-  You should head over to the "Shooters FORM Forum" and read "target panic reality check".  Joel can explain the "WHY" of what causes you to not get to anchor, and help you build a shot that will not be affected by stress.
