My middle finger o the draw hand has gone slightly numb from the first knuckle to tip. Searching online indicates that this may be a result of my having irritated the nerve and tons of dooms day advice about STOP SHOOTING NOW.
Thing is, it doesn't hurt, there is no swelling or other sign of serious injury. Stopping shooting this close to the season is (belong honest with myself) a total last resort for me.
Anyone had this problem themselves? How did it work out for you?
Thanks,
R
As with a muscle,If you don't use it it gets sore..You're not use to the strain on that digit. It'll come back and be stronger :archer:
Mine did the same thing, now it's better.
How long did it take? My finger isn't sore - just superficially numb. Is that what you had?
Are you shooting with a glove or tab?
Rossco, Where on your finger are you placing the string? There is a nerve that on some folks gets irritated that is IN the first joint of your middle finger. Try this, place the string JUST ahead of the crease in your index finger, JUST behind the crease in your middle finger and on the pad of your ring finger. Ahead and behind are in reference to your finger tips.
Many place the string right in the creases and that is sometimes why that nerve gets irritable.
Arne
Yes for one full season. I ended up changing my finger location. I used to shoot with my finger tips and first joint. That was cause of the nerve pinch.
I changed to a deep hook (string at second joint). Like everything it took some adjustment but I shoot better, can pull heavier bows, and never get that nerve feeling.
Same thing happened to me. I rested my fingers until the numbness completely gone — several days. I also switched to a much thicker glove. Never happened again.
Terry - I shoot a cordovan tab. 54 lb bow.
Arne - I shoot a deep hook BUT the other day I was practicing one of j kidwell's techniques where you pull past anchor and ease forward then back to anchor again. This may have resulted in the string rolling forward into the joint and causing the irritation.
Now I'm still shooting but taping up the finger in addition to the tab.
It's not getting any worse or any better.
I often place two layers of athletic tape over the pad of my ring finger. may help your middle.
