Title: Take-down Question.
Post by: JamesKerr on August 06, 2012, 11:04:00 PM
Do 3 piece takedowns tend to show a little wear where the bolts enter the bow over a period of time?

The bolts should screw into a metal insert so there should be no noticeable wear there.  The top/back side of the limb sometimes shows a circle where the finish has been compressed by the nylon washer that rests between the limb and bezel.  The most common "wear" is on the belly side of the limbs next to the limb alignment pins.  The glass sometimes splits in one direction or another due to the expansion and contraction of the limb wedge and laminations and/or flexing of the limb.

That is what I am seeing is just where the finish is being compressed. I just was wondering if it is normal.

If you tighten the limbs bolts down too tight it will cause the limbs to split.

I never over tighten my bolts down because I don't want to split a limb. I was just noticing the area where the limb and riser come together has just what looks like there is a little wear where it has been put together. Glad to hear it is normal.
