Title: Shaping the grip on your bow.
Post by: Brianlocal3 on August 04, 2012, 08:53:00 PM
How would I go about removing the leather grip from my LB without ruining it? It seems to be laced in. I want to make the grip of my Union Jack match my Northern Mist. Any help is appreciated.

never mind, i figured it out. Im just scared of messing up this bow.
Any thing I should avoid doing when I take a rasp to this thing? should I not rasp the back of the grip at all? It has overlays on it. will it mess up the fiberglass?

Brian,

You'd probably get more responses for this if it got moved over to the Bowyer's Bench. I'm sure a MOD will see this and move it over there for you though.

My response to your question though would be to unlace the grip or cut the lacing carefully. Then slowly try and peel off the grip material because there's probably glue under the material as well holding it onto the handle.

Then use an adhesive remover that won't hurt the bow finish. (Have to ask some of the Bowyers about what they use). Get the grip area prepared for the new grip material and re-attach. Good luck.

I've also attached a link to one of the How to's that Eric Krewson posted here. Hope it helps.

Here's another in the Build Along's that Apex Predator did.
