After a learning curve with PhotoBucket, I believe that I'm ready to go.
Here is my new Centaur Dark Matter Take-down. 58" 55#@28". Aoudad horn on tips and Cottonmouth skins on limbs.
Thanks to Jim Neaves, Comber, Snakewood3, Gordy @ Selway and all the other TradGang members who gave me their input on this bow.
Now I just need to name it - any suggestions?! :)

Can't wait to shoot it!
Hi Bob, very nice looking bow. Just curious as to how the two pieces are held together. Are they pinned or screws ?? Easy to assemble,.. need any tools etc? Thanx,...Lloyd
Another great job by Jim. Good Luck with the new bow.

Don't bring that thing to hog camp! A gator might get you then I'd have to take care of that thing and I've got enough chores every day!!! :bigsmyl:
I ain't a scared of no big lizard ;) !
pretty cool breaking away from the norm.
that is one cool looking bow, congrats
love the tips, they go great with the skins
Sweet lookin bow.1st takedown i have seen like that. Thanks for sharing
Split-Decision
Name: Serpiente Negra
Very nice looking bow you got there sir!
Nice Bob, I expected it...!!
WOW, that is one sweet bow, Congrats!
Sweet looking bow. How about the Black Mamba?
Nice looking bow!!! Congrats!
Very nice! I too am curious as to what keeps the two parts together. Looks like 2 screws/bolts? Thats a first for me to see a takedown of that nature.
Lloyd and Stu J,
Held together by two allan bolts - so yes, a wrench is needed (as is with most 3-pc take-downs). In conjuction with the pins in the riser, makes for a very stable and strong system.
As I understand, this is a similar system used in the Thunderhorn 2-pc. Take Downs.
I am awaiting (patiently - NOT) for the bow to arrive via USPS Insured Priority Mail. The pics posted were taken by Jim for possible feature on his website. Already thinking about arrow combination with a good 190-210 gr. broadhead combination (Simmons Tree Sharks and Centaur Battle Axes).
Still working on a name :) ! Thinking Black Death or Poison or something along those lines. I chose Cottonmouth skins because they are one, mean a%@ snake - will agressively come after you.
I'll keep you posted on how it shoots (which I know will be great). Gordy Mickens with Selway Archery is getting over 200 fps out of his with an approx. 10 gpi set-up! I'm stoked!!! Thanks for all of the kind comments!

Wow! Very nice bow. I'd name it "Black Viper".
I like a black bow and the moccasins skins look good on it.swamp moccasin
Bob,
Glad the skin worked out so well, the bow looks great. I really like the take-down system Jim is using.
Regards,
Charles
The centaurs listed in the Penguin Dictionary of Classical Mythology include the following: Chiron, Pholus; Silenus, Anchius, Agrius, Elatus, Daphnis, Argeius, Amphion, Hippotion, Oreius, Ispoples, Melanchaetes, Thereus, Doupon, Phrixus, Homadus, Eurytion, one lone female, Nephele.
Personal endearing name for a centaur would be 'Argento'...one of the horses taken from Maximus in the movie Gladiator.

Italian name meaning " royal silver"

Sweet looking bow and I know it will shoot great as all of Jim's bows do!!! Congrats!! I agree with Friend, going along with the Centaur names seems only appropriate.
Fellow TragGang members. Bow arrived this morning, and by lunch was strung, braced at 6 3/4" (per Jim's suggestion as starting point) and 20 arrows put through it (quickly) over my lunch break.
Arrows a mixed bag (Traditions Only, Axis Eichler Axis, MFX's) in both 400 and 500 spine, 180-200 grain fieldpoints. At 20 yards, my first 5 arrows where in a grouping of 5"! I'm pleased!
Taking this bow down to Mount Pleasant, NC this Saturday for lessons with Ben Graham of Hummingbird bows! As far as name, I'm leaning towards Umbra Mortis "Shadow of Death" in Latin! Thanks for indulging me!

Very, very nice!!!!
How about the name Medusa .. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medusa
Love that TD system!
Nice!
Nice.
Very nice looking bow.
WOW!! That's amazing
"Black Venom" looks like a good name to me.
Awesome to say the least!!
Thanks to all for the compliments and comments. Haven't checked in the last week, but she was the cover bow on Centaur's website.
Hate to break it to you, but our very own "Virtuous" Ray Hammond is the proud owner of this bow. He made me an offer that I couldn't refuse, and I made him promise to give me right of first refusal should he decide to part company with her.
Will not be my last Centaur!! Jim Neaves is great to work with and builds a killer bow (no pun intended)!
Trouble is, he cannot seem to hit a hog with it (yet ;) ) ?! :notworthy: :notworthy: (Virtuous Ray, that is!)
That is a great looking Centaur for certain. Friend's idea is a good one. That is one smart cookie that guy. Congrats, and enjoy. rat'
What about 'Split Mamba"? I believe the black mamba is one of the deadliest around. Split stands for the two pce design.
BTW: congrats on an awesome bow!
I was wondering what Ray finally did with that old bow he broke over his knee after missing that big hog. Looks like he screwed it back together and unloaded it.
:bigsmyl:
In all seriousness, that is one fine looking bow!
:clapper:
Sweet!! I can never wait to shoot a new to me bow, I unbox, string it and shoot it within the first ten minutes of getting them. That is very unique, I love it!! Shawn
