Have a beautiful Thunderchild TD 54" 55#@28" Snakewood limbs with Eboney riser, horn tips, etc. - the full Big Jim package. Need to get pics up so you all can appreciate the craftsmanship!
Here's my situation - just can't get the bow to quiet down. What brace height are you fellow TC shooters using?
Has anyone had luck with other strings (SDB, etc.) and or silencers?
Love the bow - just trying to get it quieter. Shooting 10.5 gpi arrow combination. Any advice?
Same specs as yours, with 8 1/2" brace height, beaver balls silencers, ff string, shooting 625 grain woodies. Quiet as a mouse.
bob-
i just got a bama expi, but i think they are similar bows.
it was loud.
nate sent me 2 strips of tanned beaver pelt, about a half inch wide and 3 long.
as he instructed, i split the string, stuck a quarter-inch through, and spiral- wrapped it up around the string, sticking the last quarter-inch through to finish.
oh, he said to be sure to wrap in same direction as string twists.
MAGIC! from WHACK! to (thump).
it looks cooler than ron laclair, too!
ok. that was an exaggeration.
nothing looks cooler than ron laclair.

Dump the fast flight. There is lots of speed in that bow without it.
SBD usually quiets the bow, but i dont really like skinny string much. Add 4 things of cat whiskers and it should be dead quiet. I fallowed a youtube video and it turned me really loud bow to my most quiet bow.
could also add limb savers if you can look past how they look.
I have a 54in 2pc thats 52@28. I shot it for a while with nothing on the string at all shooting about 8gpp. I finally added something to the string just because it didn't look right. How tight are your nocks fitting? I would start there. I will check the brace height on mine tommorow and report back if I can remember.
I have a 56 inch 50@28. Using a leftys r us skinny with installed wool puff around 8 3/8 brace = quiet and dead in hand for me. I am shooting 3 under too which sometimes is a problem.
I had the same problem until I replaced the string with a SBD string. Now its quieter than a mouse. My brace height is set 8 1/4 & I'm shooting a 510gr Beman MFX.
7 3/4 BH to throat of grip
Just ordered a 8 oz. SBD string with 2 sets of Cat Whiskers from Pierre (sorry if I mispelled the name).
Curious as to the difference it will make. I'll keep you posted!
I shot my 56" at 8 and 1/4-8 1/2".I used a skinny 8 strand string,D-10 material with wool puffs.I shot about 600 grain arrows and the bow was 50#s.I did have a Kanati strap on quiver on the bow.
The bow was quiet and dead in the hand for me set up like this.I prefer well made wool puffs silencers over any other silencer for quieting a bow.I would try some of them on your new string and see if it helps.
My 2 piece TC (58") is among the quitest bows I've ever shot with the standard string and yarn puffs. Maybe toy with brace height and make sure the arrow is clearing the riser with no slap.
rbcorbitt...how did the new string do?
