Title: 225 gr. broadhead choices?
Post by: threeunder on July 25, 2012, 10:48:00 PM
225 gr. is a weight I keep ending up at with my arrow set up(s).

What choices are out there in a screw in broadhead that comes in at 225 gr?

You can use any 125gr glue on head with a 100gr steel screw in broadhead adapter. There are tons of 125gr glue ons in any blade configuration from 2-4 blades.

I prefer the  100gr brass inserts and a 125gr screw on then you have a plethora of tips to choose from plus it's easier to find 125gr field tips to practice with. Otherwise it's like Turk said, steel adapter and a glue on tip.

I just started using 100 gr steel inserts in 135 grain Simmons Treesharks.  I shoot 225 gr field tips and see no difference. Love the big two blade Simmons.

I too find that I need around 220-230 grain heads on my arrows. I am curently using 220 grain phantoms and 145 grain snuffers with a 75 grain steel inserts. I add a 5 grain brass washer and that gives me 225 total weight with two heads that will sure put some blood on the ground.

There are probably some out there, but I am not aware of a 225 screw in that is ready to go.  The closest that I know of is the 215 grain widow maker broadhead that Mick Baker makes.  Looks like a pretty tough little head.

I recently put together some Magnus II 125 2-blade heads with the 100 grain adapters.  Also have some Woodsman 125 grains with the 100 grain steel adapters epoxied in.

Steelforce can make up whatever you like. They do heads from 75-300grs. Give them a buzz.

This is what I do. Works great you can find just about anything in 125 gr.

You could also use 50gr. brass inserts with any 175gr. broadhead. VPA terminators are available in 175, and so are Simmons tiger sharks. There are all sorts of combinations. Just be a little creative, and I wouldn't worry about 5 grains difference between broadheads and field points. A perfect bare shaft tune will be forgiving enough for that. Steel Force also makes a single bevel in 225. The question for you is what style broadhead do you prefer.

Gets some 120 or 130 grain grizzlys and use a 100 grain steel adaptor.
