Title: Strap-on adaptor options for riser light - help!
Post by: rbcorbitt on July 25, 2012, 06:56:00 AM
Getting prepared for upcoming hog hunts in both SC and Arkansas, where hog-hunting at night is legal.

Although I have a couple of bows that have riser inserts for stabilizer, etc., my go-to bows do not.  Just can't bring myself to drill a hole in these nice risers!

Is there any type of strap-on adaptor that can be mounted on a riser that allows use of bow-mounted light?

Thanks for your input!

The Great Northern strap on adapter is what you are looking for.  But depending on your bow and where yon strap it  you may need to shim the adapter so that the light is pointing at what you are looking at.

Read SC law in that you can use a light...but not attached to your weapon.  It is kinda veg as it talks more to handguns...but I've had several interpretations +/- from local DNR as related to a bow.

I agree, Tippet, SC Game Laws a little confusing on this.  You can, but then you can't..  I'll check with Ray Hammond on this.

I know for sure that its good to go in Arkansas.

Three Rivers sells a strap on adapter for a bow fishing reel, will work with a night light as well.  RW

Just an idea...but why not a headlight positioned above your strong eye?  I don't do any night shooting, but could this work?

Blackhawk,

I'm thinking about this as well.  Does anyone else have any experience with head light arrangement?

I have used a headlamp for possums around my place.  It takes a little adjusting to get it right, but it does work.

Ray filled us in on the law on our last hunt. On your bow is not legal.

I've been trying to come up with a light that attaches to my bow hand or maybe slip a flashlight under the straps of my armguard. Nothing seemed to work so I just bought myself a better headlamp and will practice with that before the next hunt. Placement over the left eye for right handed shooter seems to be about right.

I used a 20 watt halogen bulb and a 6 volt battery set up on my mountain bike for years. The bulb was helmet mounted and the battery was in my pack-made things bright a day it was a home mede set up. You can make it as strong as you want. There are a variety of batteries and bulbs available.

Here's something I made a while back.

I have a better idea now, but haven't actually put it together.

I use a bicycle tube and put it around my light so it doesn't scratch the wood. I'll take a rubber band that I made out of a bicycle tube and strap it around the riser of the bow and the light. A guy on another forum showed it to me and it works great.

Here is the light set up I have used for years , will work on any bow with just about any light. I like the lights that you can put a pressure switch on , also I use red , green and clear lights , I also like the LED lights.....

Sam,

Did you make this attachment strap yourself or purchase?
