Its been probably 12 years since I shot aluminum arrows and that was with a wheelie bow.
I've been thinking more and more about trying some aluminum shafts, but have no idea where to start.
You can look at my bows in my signature line. I draw 27". Could someone give me a starting point with which shaft size to start with? I typically shoot a 30" arrow, but don't mind cutting down if I need to. And my preference is to shoot relatively heavy points in the 175-250 range
Just looking for a general idea. 2114?, 2117, or ?????

From the bows listed in your signature line, I would say start with 2016's and a heavy head.
I believe your guesstimating too high sir.
For the 45 pounders something like a 1916 should be the ticket. The 50# Super K and 55# K-mag will probably tune well with a 2016, depending on center cut the 11 Super might need a 2018. That Widow will need at least a 2018.
JMO but I shot aluminum a looonnnngggg time.
For the 45 pounders I would pick a 1916.
The 55# K Mag and the Widow 51# bows a 2016.
But I have a ton of 2013, and by varying length and point weight I could use them in all your bows. I draw 27" with a recurve grip, and 175 is my usual point weight.

I draw 27" and shoot 2117's from all my bows. The weights range from 52/55/57#. My arrows are swagged and measure 28.5". Shoot 125/135/160 grain broadheads of them.
45-50#...any of the sizes mentioned above should work.
I shoot 2117 carbon express because they are the cheapest. I also use quickfletch to help spin stabilize and load on a 135gr zwickey.
I went with a wisker biscuit capture rest on my recurve so i could shoot cheap arrows with rubber fletching. its kind of a hybrid i guess.
I tuned a 2117 up for my titan with 50# limbs on it, probably around 48-49 at my draw length. Anyways full length 2117's with 125gr tuned perfect for my set up bareshafts flying great and bullet holes through paper. my draw length is 26"
I would stick with the 1916 and 2018shafts Maybe 2016 depending on draw length. I do not understand the full length shaft thing weather it be alum. or carbons. The older bows with Dacron strings can use a less spined shaft. Consider center shot on your bows also. As you know the closer to center or be on the stiffer the arrow can be. I would prefer the 2114 for 50 lbs to 57 lbs. My 2114's weight in at 510grains with 145 grain BH. You may not have a lot of choices as Easton has stopped making a lot of the sizes we had 10 years ago.
I'm shooting 2114's cut 30"1/2 200gr head, Onestringer arrow wrap 3, 5" RW feathers, arrows weigh in at 565 grains.
The bow is an older '95 Martin Howatt limited edition, basically a 62" version of a dream catcher with different woods used.
The bow is 53#@28" I'm using a B-50 string 8" brace height and drawing 27"1/2 - 28" (have had the wife check and recheck with a marked arrow) split finger, off the shelf, velcro rest and strike plate, not built out.
I haven't scaled this bow, but it feels every bit the marked # and shoots hard.
Sorry for the rambling, but going by the shaft calculator, the 2114's should be way to weak.
But not so fast, they bare shaft and fletched shoot great? Best tune I've ever had with any of my bows? :archer2:

I shoot a Predator Hunter 46@28 I draw 27-27.5. The bow likes xx75 2016s or Legacy 500 (also 2016s) cut to 29.5 with 125gr tips, the bow is cut to center. I can shoot the same arrows from my 50@28 Bear TD. Most say that the 2016 are over spined for the 46@28 but they fly really well. I think the Predator Hunter with FF String has a bit more pep then a normal 46#.
