Title: Lansky vs Simmon's Shark
Post by: Mike31947 on August 05, 2007, 03:18:00 PM
I'm thinking about shooting the Simmon's Landsharks for this season. Has anyone tried to sharpen a Simmon's head with the Lansky sharpener?

I use the small sharpener that Alaskan Bowhunting supply sells and is works great for me , never tried the Lansky but would be interested to see if it works , Fred

I have and it works just fine but now use a flat file and ceramic sticks exclusively.

I would recommend the wheelie sharpener that Simmons sells for $6.00 and use crock sticks afterwards... I have never tried to sharpen them with a lansky. Best of Luck.

I second the wheelie sharpener. I got one a couple of weeks ago after hearing some recommendations. Now all my broadheads and every hunting or work knife I own are shaving sharp. I have patches of smooth, bald, forearms to attest to this.

I tried and found it really chewed up my stones on the curve.  I'd suggest using the diamond stones or, better yet, like already mentioned, the sharpeners that Simmons sells or files.

I just got some Tree Sharks with the Wheelie sharpener, and that sharpener was the best $7.00 I've ever spent on huntin' gear. I too have a bald forearm to attest to it's effectiveness. Quick too, just a few strokes and good to go. I tried it on a half dozen different two-blades, and worked great on all of them. I'm going to get another to keep in my pack for touching-up knives and bh's in the field.

The wheelie works great for my Tiger Sharks.  Check out the archives for a thread started by JC on sharpening using the wheelie sharpener.    :readit:
