I'm looking to update my side quiver and am wondering where a person could get ahold of some ethafoam to use in the bottom of the quiver.
Can anyone help me out???
Thanks.
Kevin
It's hard to find.Look up minicell foam. It's much better, cuts and carves nicely.2" thick is plenty. You can get it in all sizes.

Thanks, guys. Both are excellent tips.

Try thrift stores for old yoga mats. They work pretty good. You may have to glue up to the thickness needed.
If you can find black or gray, that is.
BOOGIE BOARDS, kiddy swim boards at flee markets church sales or garage sales (also great for patching old 3d targets( dollar store swim noodles)
Go to a place that sells computers and ask them for the scrap that they throw away. Computers often ship in it, and once the computer arrives, nobody needs that stuff. Usually you can find pieces that are the right size to redo a bow quiver. I have two very large boxes of this stuff in my garage right now, and have enough of it that I could practically sell it commercially as quiver-insert foam.
If you are willing to part with some money for it, go to the swimming-pool section at Wal-mart or Target, and you'll probably find something you can use. In technicolor, too, even...
U.S. Military sleeping mats are ethafoam. Army surplus store or on line. I cut one of the OD green mats for stuff like this. I think they are 1/2" thick.
All of your different ideas are greatly appreciated.
I used to carve a lot of Ethafoam. As flexible as it is,it dulls a blade very quickly. If you don't believe me,sharpen up a knife and take a few slices on a block.Within a few slices, you will either resharpen or it won't cut.
The minicell foam can be bandsawn, rasped, carved, drilled and sanded. It is what may of the commercial quivers are made of and you can buy small pieces.
Those of you who have recommended the minicell foam...is it as durable as the ethafoam?
Thanks.
If you have an old ski belt laying around
If I am not mistaken the swimming noodles the sell for kids are made of polyethylene foam. "Thats what they say they are made of when you Google What type of foam are swimming noodles made of."
I see these everywhere. Walmart, Grocery Stores, Academy
Check it out
Lots of great ideas. Right now I'm looking at the minicell foam and/or the yoga blocks. Both look like good options.
Again, thanks to all who shared.
Kevin
Might also try buying a cheap life jacket and cutting the foam out. I found some at academy for $3 and they worked well.
Academy sells ethafoam targets by Delta. $24.00
Here is target shown on Academy web site

Kevin,
I while back I was in Wallyworld and came across a "Yoga" block for under $12.00 and this stuff is dense and you can get quite a few quiver foam replacements out of the 2 pack...Search it on line and some are 4" thick...cut with bandsaw, hacksaw, mitersaw, use a rasp, foam sanding block, belt sander,or bench sander and shape it till it fits inside..Plumbers goop from Lowe's or anywhere will hold it like it's there for life...Plumbers goop is waterproof comes in a purple tube and I use it to hold many leather products..You can even use the Yoga block for back quivers, filling that worn out vital section in the 3-D targets or any 18-1 rinehart target cause it actually feels like the same material..I wrote about these blocks a while back here and a few members have tried them and was amazed...Just go in the sporting goods section and look for a rectangler block ... You will be amazed I guarentee...
Keefers <><
Check out the little pads they sell in the gardening shops for gardeners to kneel on. Dirt cheap.
Keefer,
One of the posts in this thread referenced your earlier post about the yoga blocks. They sound like just the ticket.
Flinttim...I'll bet those gardners pads would fit the bill.
As I said earlier, LOTS of good ideas!
Thanks.
Kevin
Kevin, another great place and free, is your recycling center. If you have one close.
We get all types of foams. Also bags and materials for fillers, to make targets, too!
Kevin,
If you got a Wall-Mart or a Target store you will find them there and You will never need to buy quiver replacement foam again...I did another search lastnight and found those yoga blocks for around $3.95 each but cann't remember the site...I'm thinking if you buy 10 or 20 you can make a very nice backstop target also...Just search the Yoga block and prepare to make new quiver hoods and replacement vitals for your 3d targets and it's cheap and feels just like the rinehart material... ;)
Hey Frank, will recycling centers just give you stuff like that? Might be worth looking at.
Thanks for the tip...
Keefer, thanks for the yoga block tip!!! Good stuff.
Dow chemical makes an insulation product called Sill Seal. You can get it at any lowes store. It works good but is only 1/4" thick so you have to layer it. It comes in rolls, 3.5,5.5 or 7.5 wide. You can use the leftover for stuffing in a bag target.
Also excellent foam for long skinny quivers is the seal strips used to close off metal roofing panels like "U" panel.Comes in 39" length. Can get enough segments to make three replacements for around 3$.
