Title: After 17 Years I Got a Glove
Post by: LeeBishop on July 21, 2012, 12:18:00 AM
I have been shooting bows since I was twelve, but I always shot with bare fingers.

I remember having a glove when I was a young teen but it was terrible. The leather was like cardboard and was told "You have to wear it in some."

Well, I decided to not use gloves.

Now that I switched to a recurve bow last Fall, I have found it too taxing on my fingers to remain a bare fingered shooter.

I could only make it through about two dozen arrows before I had to stop for blisters starting to show.

The other day I decided to try out what looked to be a really thin glove and I got it in the mail today.

I have to say, I'm a happy camper. It's just an inexpensive Mountain Man leather glove, but it's nothing like the belt-like leather gloves I had as a teenager.

I tried it out earlier while enjoying the 108 degree, 54% humidity weather I was having today. Nothing but bullseyes with my broadheads.

Now I can concentrate only on my accuracy without all of the cutting finger pain.

I'm a slow learner  :D

Glad you made that purchase!

There are great $15 gloves out there that can save you pain and mere damage!

You must be shooting some serious weight. If your use to shooting with out a glove for that long. You sure did'nt shoot much if a dozzen shots gave to blisters. What you switch from a release.Just kidding.

No never used releases. I shot a 60lbs compound until last year.

Now im shooting a 55lbs recurve. Its just that trad bows only get harder the further you pull, so it was just eating my fingers.

Work smarter, not harder   :)

Used a glove for 52 years when shooting. However I don't wear one when hunting. I always practice without one 15 or 20 shots per session.
Don't wear one for hunting because the heat and humidity seems to loosen the leather and it slips around on my fingers too much. Since I'm not shooting a lot when hunting it just makes sense to go bare finger and have less to go wrong.

I hunt with bows 65# to 85#, and don't get blisters shooting bare finger.
