I was just wondering if anyone had any input or experiences with a few different bow manufacturers. Ive been looking into Liberty, Abbott, Great Plains, and Howard Hill bows. I know it is generally personal preference, but I wanted to see what everyone else experienced.
I have only shot the Abbott and I can say its a great bow.
I like all my Hill bows. I have not shot the others you mentioned, so I can't make a comparison. Also, definitely take a long look at Northern Mist.
I've shot versions of all of them. Depending on the model, the Liberty and Abbot are fairly similar R/D bows. The Great Plains has more R/D and the Hill is either straight, deflexed a little or string follow. It has a feel that is quite different from the others. Good idea to try to find some trad venues and shoot a few longbows to get an idea as to what you like.
You can't go wrong with Liberty bows ... Allen has a range of longbows that will suit your needs ...
And if you wanna go ol' skool and be cool ... Howard Hill is kinda hard to beat .
But both of these companies also offer outstanding customer service , great build times and brilliant products.
I have a Great Plains Wolf Creek one piece that I bought here in the classifieds. I can't say enough good things about it, though I haven't shot the other two bows!
I have owned Liberty, Hills and Northern Mist. All 3 are a little different. I would buy any of the 3 again. Go to a shoot and try to shoot them and see which one you like the best.
Thanks for all the input everyone! I've heard that the Hill bows have a lot of handshock. Has anyone heard or experienced this before? I shot an Abbott the other day and it seemed to be a pretty solid bow. Now I'm just hoping to check out a Liberty and Great Plains. Has anyone owned one or both of them to get a comparison?
I had a Great Plains Rio Bravo longbow for 12 years. Top drawer craftsmanship, looks, and shootability.
