How many here have been to the Pope and Young Museum in Chatfield MN.
Pictures to come.
I have its a great exhibition!! I also live only 45 minutes from it so if you go give me a shout. I can put you up and we can shoot some arrow in the back yard range!
I just got back from there this past weekend. I was attending a scoring clinic and was able to walk through the museum several times. Lots and lots of archery history and animal mounts. If any of you guys are in the area you owe it to yourself to stop by for a visit.
Funny huh Greg that is why I was there this past weekend too :bigsmyl:

I will put up a bunch more this evening.
I've been there, very nice, a lot to see and take in, especially for the traditional archer. Plus, there is a great trad archery shop just up the road in Rochester- The Footed Shaft.
Was able to go there in '98 as a side trip while attending the PBS Banquet weekend.A ton of archery history.Should be on every Traditionalists bucket list.

I am not certian on the top two but the bottom bow was simbas blood (the bow he killed his lion with) and it was reportadly 80lbs. I am really not sure factually though.

I was there a couple years back, will definitely go again. Glen Hinsey let me back into his office where he was going thru a donation from the Pope family, a bow, arrows and shooting gear that Saxton Pope had made for his nephew that appeared unused. It was found in the attic of a family home and sent to the museum. It was a great adventure!
Awsome Pics , and I would Love to go there!! Kinda like a Kid at Walt D. World, wander around for Days and Not see enough of it to be ready to leave for Home again!! :archer: Great Thread!! :clapper: :clapper:

Thanks...20 years ago I got to see some of these items in Seattle at Glen St. Charles archery shop. It was just amazing to see bows used by Pope, Young and others.
I was there for a NABC meeting representing TBOF several years ago. It is a great museum.

Where is this at?
Except for the photos posted by Gregg Dudley, I was unable to pull up any of the other photos. However the ones I could see were great.
It's in Chatfield,MN right off hwy 30 and 52. About 20 miles SE of Rochester. I'm right up the road and have had the privelage of serving on the Museum committee for a few years. I've done a few of the mounts like the Buffalo, the dead bear in the one picture you showed, WR Woodland Caribou and Coues deer to name some. It's great history for every bowhunter to see.
thats awesome randy! im gonna get over there one of these days. did ya see my brick out front lol?

I did not know you had one or I would have found it.
How many were in your class? Looks like we have 2 new measurers in Mo!!!
There was 18 there. On from MO too.
Thanks for sharing.
When the museum was at NWA, as I roamed around looking at all the cool archery items, I knew then and there I found a hobby that would replace alcohol. I always loved walking around swap meet with Glenn looking for archery stuff. Nearly ten yrs sober I always think of Glenn and his adventures and contributions to archery. I have several things from Glenn and loved bringing salmon to him. I sure miss his storys and one day would love to go to new Pope and Young museum.. One item I got from the St Charles family was Fred and Glenns last get together in Florida in 1988...Hearing there voice and compassion they had for one another.. Its a old VHS tape that says a Conversation with Glenn and Fred.. Its one of those old videos that never can watch enough.. Thanks for pics and post Gents..
Best wishes and cant wait for more pics for old time sake..Thanks again....Warberg
Could you tell us about that case with the bear skulls, please? Is one of those skulls the world record skull that Jay St. Charles brought back from Alaska?
As I remember the story, Jay got the skull from the guy who killed the bear with a Damon Howatt bow. I think the guy was the owner of the hardware store where Glenn and Fred and the guys would buy their licenses when they went up to hunt the Little Delta area. I may have that mixed up but that's how I remember it. I was told that Glenn had the skull at NWA but I don't know for sure. Any info would be appreciated.
THANK YOU for posting these photos and commentary. This is a great thread.
Mike
I don't beleive any of those skulls were ever in Seattle but the old world record Polar bear skull was brought to the museum by Jay. Right off the top of my head there's a black bear skull from Dave Cordes, Dennis Dunn's world record brown, a grizzly, and the polar. That's without looking, I'll try to remember to look next time down there.
Thanks!
I hope I can visit that museum some day. All of us owe a debt of gratitude to Glenn St. Charles for his lifelong devotion to archery, its lore and its history.
Mike
Thanks for sharing.

It's a great stop, I'm only a little over an hour away but have not been there in a few years. The Footed Shaft is maybe 20 minutes north, nice to hit both at the same time.
Looks like a great place for our sort. I hope to get out there before too long. Thanks for sharing.
