I am getting my nephew started in trad and he is going to be shooting a 41@28 longbow. I am going to have him shooting alum arrows, my question is what arrow do you think would be good for 20 yards and in on deer? I dont have much experience with low poundage but do have some 2117 and some 2018's. I would rather not have him shoot a real heavy broadhead so im a little confused. I questioned the above arrows because a have alot of them and i believe some fellows on this site use the same arrow in that draw range. THANKS FOR THE HELP!!!!
What is your nephew's draw length? That will have a lot to do with the arrows that will work. Also, does the bow have a dacron string or a fast flight string?
2117s and 2018s will likely be way too stiff. I am shooting 2117s out of a 59-pound Pronghorn longbow with 125-grain field points.
An 1816 or 1918 might be better choices, but draw length, string type, offset of riser, etc., will all play a big roll in selecting the right arrow.
I would think a 1916 would be a good choice for that draw weight.
1916 should be the ticket!

1916 will work ..
I shoot a couple of Longwalkers in that weight and 1916 work fine.
1916, yes. But 2016s will work also, and offer a bit more penetration due to increased weight. SOFTEN THE SPINE WITH MORE WEIGHT UP FRONT OR LONGER LENGTH.
Oh my, I would have picked an 1816.
Killdeer
Thanks alot he draws 28 inches, the bow does have a fast flight string, and I believe it is cut to center.
Depending on draw length, either the 1816 or 1916.
I shoot a few bows now around 40# and draw close to 29". With a 1916 cut to 30" with 125 head, it works for all my light bows.
For a shorter draw and shorter arrow Killdeer is right on. Even the 1913 may be worth a look as well.
I have paired the 2016 with both a Bob Lee TD Longbow @41# and a Morrison Shawnee @40#. They fly
perfectly with 200g up front cut to 29".
