Just bought a Sage after being gone from shooting for 30 years. Could use some help to decide rather to shoot off the shelf or add a arrow rest to this bow. Since I lost most of the sight of the right eye am also going to shoot left hand this time around. Should be fun. Thanks for any input and help
For myself,I like and prefer to shoot off the shelf. You can just use some leather or the self adhesive arrow rest&plates. And you can just use the fuzzy side of some velcro, you can pick up at most stores.
Don't shy away from shooting from a rest. The rest will give you an edge with arrow flight; I don't know what advantage you could give to shooting off the shelf. My rests last forever, I've never had one rip off of any of my bows, or get damaged, and it's just as easy to get an arrow on the rest as it is to get one up on the shelf. Shooting off the shelf is just fine, but I find the rest to be superior.
Archie, which rest do you use.
I would get the calf hair strike plate and rest. They are slick and last a long time.
Tooth brush rest on my Silvertip.
Bullet Proof!

Thanks for the reply everyone,
Lyonel, did a quick search. Where did you find your toothbrush rest? Is this something you made yourself. Very interesting. I like Bullet proof.
Here's a build along link on a mates website.

Outstanding, Much Thanks
That's an excellent build along LYONEL, I'm saving that one
Mark also makes a mighty fine recurve as well
What rest do I use.... I'm not sure.
My dad use to run an archery shop, and when I was a kid, he set everything up for me. He always used a plastic arrow rest, and I don't know what it's called. I have a bunch of them, from his old stock, and I'll probably never need to buy any more for the rest of my life. I got my recurve in 2006, and am still using the same rest I put on it back then, and there is no need to change it anytime soon. I have the same rest on my old early 80's compound (shooting fingers); I have not had to put a new one on it since 1991, and while I don't shoot it much anymore, I shot that bow exclusively for many years. On my longbow, I took a generic, thin black plastic arrow rest and trimmed it way down with a razor blade, then glued it on and put some shelf material over it.
