A lot of great bowyers have come and gone and I thought it might be interesting to see how many of us are still hunting with some of these great bows that are no longer made.
Heres one of my favorites made by the late Charles Wilerford of Ohio, 68" 70@ 28 longbow, all Osage w/clear glass. It sees time in the woods every season. (http://%20 [/IMG]
I still shoot an original Zipper Zip Stick longbow, Sley recurve, Glenn Parker Greywolf longbow, and a double shelf Green Mountain longbow.....none have been built in quite a few years now.
MY Appilachains, Savage River(got 2 looking for others) and my son shoots my Cedar Ridge long bow. wish I could get new limbs for the Savage rivers(just in case) (http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq136/bloodtrailer7/th_119-1.jpg) (http://s441.photobucket.com/albums/qq136/bloodtrailer7/?action=view¤t=119-1.jpg) (http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq136/bloodtrailer7/th_118.jpg) (http://s441.photobucket.com/albums/qq136/bloodtrailer7/?action=view¤t=118.jpg)
The last couple of years I've become a real fan of the late Jack Howard's Gamemaster Jet recurve. Went looking for one in 2009 and one thing led to another and I ended up with 5 of them. I've never shot a bow that compares with the Gamemaster Jet. I've had a pretty good run the last couple years and have managed to kill animals with 4 of my Jets. The other, a 55lber that has likely never been shot, I haven't had the guts to carry to the woods yet.
A couple pics....

We really lost a great bowyer when Jack passed a few years ago.
Ryan
Jack Howard bows... Gotta love 'em!
Ryan, maybe if you practiced a little more you'd have better luck hunting.
:bigsmyl:
GREAT pics!
I was just given a very special Tice & Watts. It was given to me by a long time friend. He is 74 years old now and said he wanted me to have his bow. This was his go to bow for many many years. You could not beat the smile off of my face with BIG stick. I will be taking it to the woods this year. I think my Zipper's will understand.
Bill
Groves Spitfire bows, Quillan Bamboo Longhunter, Wing Presentation Hunter, Brackenbury Grey Shadow.
Great bows guys! The great quality, looks and performance of a fine bow, never goes out of style.
Been using a Savage River from Dave Guthery of Appilachian Archery since 1991. No need to switch.
Love Ryan's pics! Not easy to find a nice LH Jet.

I have a Sley Recurve that is still a top performer.
Bill,
could you post a picture of the Tice and Watts? I have only seen one. Thanks.
Great pictures Ryan !!!
Those Howards are really pretty bows.

Gotta Fredrick Baron I'm very fond of.
i have a 69' Shakespeare Cascade, i love to hunt with it.
I'm not letting this thread go by without mentioning the Massie Archery, Inc. bows.
My current go to bow is a Jerry Hill Elite.
I still bowhunt Turkey with my old Browning Cobra and use my original Bill Stewart Multi Cam T/D for back up bow on trips. I bowhunt deer with my one piece Groves Spitfire.
I think it's neat that Mike Steglia is offering the original one piece Staghorn recurve again. Too bad no one has brought back the Tice&Watts T/D bow.
The first longbow I had was Ron Maulding's Tamarack longbow, sold it to the late Doug Kerr.
I have never seen a take down Tice & Watts. Do you have any idea where I could see a picture of one, Joe?
I have not shot this bow more than about 50 shots. The string is looking kinda rough and I gave away all of my B50 a few years ago. One thing is for sure though I'm going to have to drop quite a few grians of arrow weight to keep the trojectory I'm use to. Luckily I usually shoot 12 grains per pound so I have plenty of room to go lighter on my arrows. The T&W is 62"53#@28". Perfect for hunting.I can hardly wait for deer season to get this thing to the woods.
Bill
Your right Bill...me neither. Hands typing faster than brain can think. All the pictures I saw were all one piece in the old Kittredge Catalog.
I seen one at Denton Hill a few years back but the guy was asking a ridiculous price...was a one piece also.
Love hunting with my Adcock ACS CX. Yeah you can buy an ACS, but not one made by OL.
Bought a Bear Alaskan "Halloween" bow with a tangerine or orange fiberglass belly. Hope to hunt with it this fall.
Due to elbow problems following a couple injuries... I may have to drop down 5-6#. this fall..
That being the case, my beautiful 50# 1964 Kodiak will be spending lots of time in the woods and sage brush of the Pacific NW chasing Blacktails, Mulies and Roosevelt Elk.

Green Mountain longbows. Have owned a half dozen over the years and was sorry to see Jim Duclos pull the plug on his bow business. His forward handle design, Stingray, is my favorite and still flinging 'em very quietly.
Yesterday,at the Sunflower Games archery event,I shot with a guy who had a Herter's recurve that looked brand new. It, and he, shot well enough to place 3rd in the Traditional FITA event for the Master class.
Might not be hunting but that bow is sure still "in the hunt"...
;)
TOM COLE Had "Old Timer Long Bows" in the 80s and 90s Hill style long bow with just a touch of reflex. He was pretty popular back then . ( One of the original founders of ETAR also ) I still have three of his bows. The 74#er he made for me out shot the 86 #er Big Five HH I had at the time!
Great bows, sorry he has not made them for years. Tom and his son still maintain the Pennsylvania Long Bow Hall of Fame!!
I am absolutely amazed, with all the copying going on, that no one has purchased the Tice equipment and reproduced it with todays materials. The T&W TD. never made it past prototype. TTT
I have a Sapphire Hawk longbow that is awesome.
Don't think they are made any longer.
I've hunted with my Herters perfection hunter but I have to change this year and hunt with my "trade bow"!
Good looking bows, Sergio. I thought about stripping the factory camo offf of this one but I'm afraid of what might be under neath.
Bill
Thank you bill; I also have a Titan Model 58" 53# , that has factory camo, i have often been tempted to remove the camo and see what is underneath. Great shooters for sure!
My Talon longbow is a sweet hunter. Dave left us several months ago but had not made bows for a few years.
There happens to be a T&W Sparten Hunter, 58" 55#@28" on the auction sight right now ........but a left hander. :archer2:
This Rasmussen Flatbow still does the job.

I own "6" Jeff Massie made "Longhorns"(Massie Archery,Inc.)three of them TD models. As "Ric O'Shay" and others know, the Massie "Longhorn" was top of the line. Sure wish Jeff was still turning out bows. :notworthy:
I forgot about Jeff Massie....and I was a dealer for his bows. Sold quite a few, no complaints. His T/D recurve was a real shooter also.
1952 Bear Grizzly.

Herters Sitka
Just came in from shooting this beauty...shoots right along with my other great bows!

Bill Stewart multi cam takedown. Bill's been gone for a few years now but many of his unique fast and stable wavey limb bows still live on.

I just picked a 47#, 67 1/2 S/Kodiak, that's no longer being built. This one was my done up by Don Ward and looks great. However,if arms don't improve soon allowing a heavier bow, this one will be seeing the woods very soon now as season are right around the corner.

Great shooting bows. I have wanted one of those for a long time. Seems like everytime I find one I don't have the funds and when I have the funds I can't find one.
Tom Jenning's Smithwicks; Frank Eicholtz's Zeus, Saturn, Jupiter.
I hope to give this old girl some woods time this year.

I still take my Arkansas Stick Caddo built by Terry Hughes out from time to time. Still one of the smoothest and quietest bows I've ever shot.
