Title: Gateway Razor feathers?
Post by: Soonerlongbow on July 12, 2012, 07:13:00 PM
My wife's self bow has an ultra short brace height, short enough that the 4" feathers on my GT Leagacy's get torn up just while drawing the bow. I've been thinking of fletching some with Razors but worry they may not stabilize well.

Any suggestions?

Wow! You mean it only has about a 5 to 5-1/2" brace height? Is that where it shoots best or can you raise it to about 6-1/2"? I would think with that short of a brace height, she would be whacking her wrist with the string.

I can get a few twists into it but even then still shorter than most. No stingers as of yet! 43#@26" and about 68" long. Actually quieter than my Legacy.

If that is all you can get out of it then I would try 4 fletching with the Razors and some helical and you should be fine.

Sounds like you need a shorter string!

I think that gateway also makes a 3 inch feather. No idea about their razors

Is she hunting or just target shooting, those little razors are really stiff, put some on the daughters arrows and they do great, also know an adult man that uses them and says they are phenomenal, but he and my daughter only target shoot, no broadheads. I would think though that if it's an extremely well tuned arrow and good form is involved they would guide a broadhead fine especially 4 fletch and a smaller profile broadhead, but the broadhead shooting is only speculative. I plan on giving it a try one of these days, just haven't gotten too it yet:)

I have used them in the past and they work very well.  Ditto on the 4 fletch with a lot of helical.

I've used both the 3" and the razor in a 4 fletch configuration.  They both fly well and the 4 fletch gives a decidedly better view of the arrow in flight.

I will be trying the 3" gateways in a 4 fletch configuration this weekend. Will post results

Shorter feathers would probably work, but the problem is a too low brace height.  I agree with Beachbow.  A shorter string is in order.

Update: Went out with the Boss today and put a few extra twists in the string, few more than had before. Locks up just right, feathers never touch.
Her bow however shot better with the arrows for my compound, even with vanes.
