Title: First account of stabilizers on recurves?
Post by: skychief on July 10, 2012, 10:01:00 PM
When were stabilizers first used on any recurves?

Thanks for your help.

Best regards, Skychief.

Hoyt introduced them to the retail market in 1961. I would imagine there were homemade versions in the 40's and 50's.  Maybe some of the history buffs will chime in or you could post the same question on the trad history forum.

The first I remember them were on Hoyt's Pro Medalist, I think back in the '60's, but can't say exactly. Like most things, they probably pre date anything I remember though.

Guy who taught me to build bows, my father in law used brass rod and lead to fill holes in the handles in order to manage the weight.  He said that was one of the first attempts he knew of at stabilizers.
