Post by: grump on July 10, 2012, 05:17:00 PM
Just bought a new Bear Montana 43@28 but I pull 26 and scale shows 39@26. I have no idea    where to start with a choice of arrows. I would like to use aluminum. Would some one please suggest what arrow, arrow length, point weight for a starting point. thanks all  :help:

If I did it right, Stu's calculator says 1813s, 27 1/4", 125 grain head, 3 X 5" feathers.  Should also give you pretty close to 10gpp finished weight

Another choice, based on Stu's calculator would be an 1816, 28 inches long, with 145 grain point.  This set up won't be as fast as the 1813s, but should be more durable.

Below is a link to Stu's calculator that you can download and play around with yourself.  It is an Excel spreadsheet that is fairly easy to figure out.  Try it and ask questions if you have trouble with it.

Good Luck!

I would try a 1916 cut to 29" with 150 grains out front.
