I won the 2012 St. Jude arrow in the auction, and had hoped to shoot an antelope with it this coming August. I shot it for the first time today, and it was showing waaaay weak for the bow I am hunting with. It is 55@28, PH Ferret recurve. I only have one lighter bow, a PH foam core, 52@28, but it shoots just as hard as the 55#.
Anyway, I cut the St. Jude arrow down to 29" bop, as short as I can go, and it still shows waaaay weak. I knew the Cris Surtees 190 grain VPA was the only thing I could fix now. I tried a 125 grain Woodsman Elite, and now that arrow is flying true.
What to do? I wanted to kill an antelope with the arrow just as I bought it, with Chris's head on the end, but it just won't work.
Anyway, I will plan on building a heavy spined wood shaft with the 190 gr. head on it for next years auction.
Should I kill an antelope with the 125 head on the end of it, or put Chris's 190 gr back on, leaving the arrow original, then donating it back to the auction next year? What to do, oh what to do? :archer2:
Kill an antelope with the arrow and the WW. Work up another stiffer arrow with the broadhead and shoot and elk with it.
Mike
Sorry for the weak arrow Shed. A spine tester is on my wish list.
No problem Bud! That shaft is awesome, sourwood, right? It is as straight as any carbon shaft. Flies perfect with the lighter head.

Agree with Mike, Kill an antelope with the arrow and WW, build a stiffer arrow put the Chris Surtees head on it and kill an elk, then donate both to the auction next year.
Yeah, Sourwood. Dang thang was heavy too. Without the head it was over 500gr if I remember right.

Sounds like a plan guys. I sure hope to kill an elk this year, freezer is getting low!
Now wingnut has got it going on! We will begin calling him "the thinker".
