I'm heading up near Grayling to visit my brother today and was wondering if anyone knows of a place besides Jay's that carries trad stuff or maybe even a cool wool store or whatever...any ideas for places to check out while I'm there? Thanks in advance!

As you said, Jays in Clare has trad stuff. I personaly love Jays for all sorts of hunting and camping stuff. You can see some Fred Bear memorabilia at Sled Heads in Frederick. There is also alot af memorabilia in a resturaunt north of town on old 27. Visit where the old Bear Archery plant was on M-72 a few blocks from town, or Freds house behind the plant. Take in the Ausable River. Grayling still has not forgiven Bear Archery for leaving. Grayling is a great area with lots to do. Mackinac bridge is 2 hrs north. Lots of lakes in the area also.
The Bears Den pizzeria in downtown Grayling has a lot of Bear memorabila. They tore down the old Bear museum a few years ago because it was in pretty bad shape and couldn't get funding for repairs.
In 1985 all of the Grayling Bear Museum's treasures were moved to the Gainesville, Florida Bear Museum.
Guess it was kinda hard to maintain an empty museum, but the newer empty museum in Gainesville may still be standing.
We pretty much have to "order out" for all our trad stuff up here.

If you come annually, try making it the last weekend of June and you can attend the MI Traditional Bowhunters Jamboree held at the site of the old museum. It's a fun shoot. A few vendors come, but it's mostly just camping and shooting on a 3-D course and hand painted cardboard target course that's really neat.
As Eric says, you're mail ordering anything worth while when it comes to traditional north of Jays. Most go to Comptons shoot or the Traditional Expo in Kalamazoo in the winter to stock up in person.
The answer to your question is , NO. There are very few good trad shops in Michigan and the few that do exist are scattered about.

If you get near Grand Rapids check out Black Dog Outfitters, shop is North of Grand Rapids near Rockford! Great Trad shop and as stated they are few and far between!
Google Black dog Outfitters and you will see what Tom Hackbardt has to offer. He is just off the highway and a great trad guy to deal with. Stop on the way up or on the way down. Open 7 days a week.

Yes. Tom partnered up with a guy and now they are a total sport shop.
I live an hour north of Grayling. Jay's in Clare is the best bet. The Gaylord Jay's is more suited for a wheel shooter.
Thanks for all the replies, I've seen the old Bear stuff up there before except for the Bear's Den, that sounds like a plan for next time.
I did happen to stop at BDO in Rockford today on my way home and that is a very cool place! I'll be back there a few times for sure, I was in Colorado when they opened and I never knew about it before recently.
