That is what the wife asked knowing I would be off work today. I looked in the freezer and found an elk roast from last year. I am going to fire up the smoker.
First I trimmed all the silver skin and wrapped the roast in bacon.

I put the leftover bacon in the smoker to have BLT's for lunch.
While the meat was smoking , I headed to the shop to work on some hunting arrows.
Lunch!

I must add here the importance of keeping well hydrated while smoking meat in this heat !

After lunch , While watching the meat and keeping "hydrated ", I started test firing my new arrows. This is going to be my elk set up for this year. Dalaa 17 in. riser with Border Hex 6 limbs , 62 in. 50 # at my draw . The arrows are CX Heritage 350's with 300 gr. head 730 gr. total.

Damn...I had taco's
Beats that can of tuna I had. (I'm on a diet.) But I'mm heading to St. Augustine, FL in the morning on vacation, so it will be fresh seafood tomorrow night. That elk looks delicious. What do you serve with it?
That's it! I don't care how hot it is I'm firing up the smoker this weekend! Good stuff and thanks for the motivation.
Rob
MAN THAT LOOKS GOOD!!!!!!
Your cooking is alot like my own.....wrap whatever it is in bacon and smoke it. That Elk roast looks beautiful. Heck, I had to show it to the wife cuz it's right up her alley....she said "way to go" on using the leftover bacon for BLT's! :notworthy:
I wonder if Rob could add a "Taste Meter" and "Smell Meter" to Tradgang ??
I think I smelled it all the way down here in VA! :p
That looks awsome, makes me hungry!!!!!
Hey Bill, Here's an idea for your leftover bacon..(if you don't already know this one)
Cover it liberally with brown sugar, sprinkle it with ground cayenne (just a little if you want a bite....a little more if you like the spice) throw it in the smoker til crispy and a little gooey....it's amazing!!! Will really help with that Hydrating liquid you are using. But I warn you, it's addictive!! Helps if the bacon is thick cut.
Man Bill your killing me!!
Outstanding! Whatta ya say we have a repeat from last year so we can eat good all winter :)
FANTASTIC!! Good on ya brother!! That roast looks unreal ... I had meat loaf tonight :knothead:

Bill - you sure know how to make someone's stomach growl!!!!
Where in SC PA did you find Linies?
That ILF rig you have set up should zip a heavy arrow quite smartly!
Hope the elk was tasty.
MMMMMMMMMMM
That looks awesome.
Looks awesomely delicious!!!
Will have some red snapper on the half shell this evening.
Thats a work of art
And you had a great beer!!! It all looks great. The rewards of the hunt.
I'm getting my annual physical next week and I think my cholesterol just went up a 100 points. Boy oh boy does that look GOOD ....

Next Elk Cookout don't forget your buddy across town. I have been shooting my Elk Target daily getting ready for New Mexico in September.Come over some evening if it ever cools off.
Take care , Randy
Ate my first elk roast two years ago sitting around Whip's campfire at Compton. After a few pieces I told 4Runr that I really did envy those out west and the ones who get to go out west !!! Elk is about the tastiest meat I have eaten to date with Antelope a close second. Ever eat one of RobTattoo's antelope burgers hot off the fire ??? MMMMM' Good !!! Still want to try some Moose and Caribou too. :campfire:
