Title: Twisted Timber Treestands...... WOW !
Post by: NoCams on July 05, 2012, 10:03:00 PM
Just got thru watchin the Backland Adventure show and seen this new to me Twisted Timber Treestand..... WOW ! I think I might just have to have one of these sweet little gadgets for some of my clearcuts. The last few years we have been hunting more and more out of hang ons and this stand would be just the ticket for some of the trees I have had to pass up.

Anybody got one of these and if so how do you like it so far ?   :coffee:

Looks heavy, Way too bulky, makes too much noise in the set-up, takes forever to crank it up.  I'll stick with my climbing sticks and my Woodsy too's.

Best of luck.

Wow two minutes in and he's up 18" (with time lapse breaks...) You need a telephone pole tree (like any climber) I stopped at that point.

Looks like a huge platform though.

Maybe set it up for elderly clients? Long before season.

$900 bucks just for the stand itself with the section of ladder it starts at the bottom with.

Each section of ladder is nearly 200 bucks...so 1500 to 1600 dollars, plus shipping to climb a tree? I think I'll keep using mine and go on an extra trip somewhere.

Looks like a solution looking for a problem.

Time out guys....... You fellas are looking at the link that Razorbak posted under my original post...... I was talking about the , " Twisted Timber Stand ", that I did not post a link to.

The Twisted Timber Stand I seen on Backland Adventures is made for all kinds of twisted and leaning trees, hence the name.

Anyone got a Twisted Timber Stand yet ? I would like to know how you like it ?   :coffee:

...don't cha hate that...? lol

The twisted timber does look like it could be very nice in some spots. Makes looking for the RIGHT tree way easier.

That crank up thing in the link looks like a real pita. Tell you one thing..I'd bring a cordless drill with me. Looks like everything must weigh 150+ pounds to get up far enough to make a difference..what's a another couple pounds for a drill..?...lol

Ok I went and looked a the right product. it would be nice if they posted prices. Similar to the LW platform leveling system but more points to select from.

I actually expected to see a remake of the Centipede stand.

Looks decent. Time will tell. All steel at 13.5 and 16.5  lbs.

While that is really cool from a mechanical standpoint - to be honest, I can carry a 3 section, 15', $89 ladder stand in a whole lot easier, and have it in place a whole lot faster at a fraction of the cost.

Still - I am intrigued by this.

When I use a lock on, that's the one I use. I actually have two of them that I bought years ago when they first came out. I love em, but I have really taken to to use of my ladder stands.

Tree Rat, looks like they are $199 for either model on the website for the Twisted Timber Stands. Not sure why the would try to charge the same $199 for the two different sized stands, not good marketing in my pea brain ???

Still talking about Twisted Timber Stands here fellers, forget about that erector set link that was posted please.

Still looking for someone who has used one of the Twisted Timber Stands...... ? I may have to buy one first and be the TradGang test pilot.....  :scared:

I'm not sure I could get comfortable with that much "lean back" from the stand seat of the Twisted Timber stand.  I need to feel that tree trunk against my back to get comfortable enough to hunt. I'd have to find a tree with less lean.  The stands I have allow for some platform leveling, enough for me (2 or 3 inches). It looks like a good design, well thought out, and the weight isn't bad-just not for me.

I just don't see this being a treestand that I would want to carry or put up.

I think we need to start this thread over,, Who gives a rat about the crank up monster.

The Twisted Timber solves one problem of hunting from nasty trees. Now if they would just solve the problem of getting back into it if you fall.

Hunting out of one of them, most harnesses will have you hanging back side to the tree and 2' away from it or anything..

Earl, at one point there I was thinking that too.....

If you did fall I guess you could swing back and forth till you could get a hold on the limb / trunk and go from there ...... ?

I am thinking I am going to go ahead and buy one.

I think I'd use one of those harnesses that would allow you to lower yourself to the ground. I think it's called the Rescue One or something like that.

I settled in on the Millenium stands. They don't adjust to the really crooked trees, but they are so incredibly easy and SAFE to hang plus the most comfortable stand I have ever sat in.

I started carying them last year and sold most of my other personal stands including my Lone Wolf. If I need to take the stand with me when I leave, I just slip it off the bracket and leave bracket, ladder and all in place. Hang the stand back up in about 30-40 seconds the next sitting.

The Twisted Timber stands look nice. My concern would be in climbing those crooked trees to hang the stand. I guess screw in steps would be the best option and I do not like screw in steps. Crooked trees in my experience are a pain to climb. Of course they often grow in the best places

We use the el cheapo hang ons 75% of the time and use our Summit Vipers the other 25% of the time, especially the first sit or two in a new area. After confirmation of the "Best" tree we will move a hang on to that tree if possible and hunt it the rest of that season.

Lots of the times the, " Best " tree was not best for a regular hang on. Most are not as bad as the extreme examples given on the Twisted Timber website showing how versatile they can be. One example that comes to mind is a huge 5 trunked maple we have killed deer from the last 4 years. The only trunk we can hang on with a regular hang on stand leans just enough to make you almost uncomfortable. The Twisted Timber would solve that problem, quick, fast, and in a hurry looks like.   :campfire:

Oh yeah, we use the woodpecker and bolts to climb with too. We also hate screw in steps, way too much work and also leaves your stand available for others to hunt while you are away. We carry 15-20 bolts in our Summit SOP harness pouch and take them in and out each hunt. Once you have your trees drilled for the season the hard part is over.

Lots of public land and leased land don't allow any damage to trees, e.g., nails, screw in steps, bolts, etc.  I carry strap-on steps.
