Yesterday I received a surprise package from Guy Taylor of CA, "Grey Taylor" on here as a fellow Trad Gang member. Inside the box was this handsome set of 6 hand-crafted wood arrows that he made to surprise me with. He said (basically) for my service to our country and my devotion to trad archery. They are designed, made and decorated by Guy. Done in Marine colors of Black, Red, & Gold; with a Korean and Viet Nam service ribbon on the shaft and a Marine emblem between those. I will cherish these professionally made, artistic beauties for as long as the good Lord allows. Thank you a thousand times over, Guy.

Thanks for your service Marine!
Our fighting men deserve such honor. Beautiful arrows, sir!
Thank you and you're welcome.
Guy also said this that I would like to share:
"Bernie, I can't make arrows for every deserving veteran so I hope you will accept these as my personal thanks to you, and care for them as my thanks to every service member who has served our country."
It is my humble pleasure and honor to be chosen to do just that. Bless them all, bless us all.
Wow, thats about all I can think of! Thanks to all who have served.
Well that is just COOL!
A most-excellent thoughtful gesture and gift!
Celebrate a patriotic 4th of July!

THAT is what makes this site so great. Folks who give unselfishly of themselves just to help others. Guy... you are a true gentleman and an invaluable asset to mankind.

Wow!
Good to see you get good stuff, Bernie, because you certainly deserve it. Many thanks to you and to all who serve(d) their country.
Many thanks also to Guy. Not only has he put a huge grin on my face with his kindness, but he has given me many ideas and inspirations regarding arrow making.
This place just gets better and better. Speaking of which, Bern, I hope you are making great strides.

I'm sure glad you like them, Bernie. They were a lot of fun to make.
There are a lot of vets who deserve something like this but you're the one who actually gets to hold them in honor of all those others.
Many thanks to to Killdeer and Dano for their assistance in getting these to you. I couldn't have done it without their help.
And thanks to everyone for your kind comments.
Guy
Thank all of you for the kind comments and sincere shared pleasure. Also thanks to my dear friends, Killie and Dano for providing Guy with the necessary info to carry out his generous and thoughtful deed. I will never look at these arrows without recalling all of this.
I DO think I am making steady, progress with recuperation and healing , Killie. I start "Follow-up" appointments tomorrow, and should know more soon after that. Actually ate my first "real" full meal last night - Rose's homemade Chicken and dumplings w/garden-fresh sliced tomatoes - yummy! Wish I could have shared that with all of you too - LOL
HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY - BE SAFE OUT THERE!
I hope to get a couple of pics up later today showing the visual impact of the two black fletches, and a close up of the shaft's MC emblem perhaps.
Way cool. now you can shoot the toughman at least 6 more times. lol. happy 4th Bernie and thanks for the heads up on this.
Guy, very nice deed.
Beauties - indeed!
very nice arrows. hppy 4th to ya Bernie
Well deserved indeed! Thank you Bernie for your service and thank you Guy for your grateful gesture, you are both to be commended. I come from a Military family and my son is currently preparing for his 2nd deployment, so these gestures are special to me. I am proud to be an American and I appreciate all those who have served. Freedom is not free. Happy 4th of July!
What else can be said...Beautiful arrows, Great gesture, and by all accounts a great man. I don't know you personally Bernie, but your unselfish service to our country speaks volumes. Thanks to you and to all the others here and abroad that serve / have served our great country. Happy 4th!
Tradgang camaraderie, thoughtfulness, and spirit come through yet again.
Thank you Guy for this great gesture and thank you Bernie for your years of service, both as a Marine and as an ambassador to archery.

Thank you all again.
LOL - you have a point there, Don but I think I'll save them from that particular "clash" - just in case ;^).
Here are extra pics of Guy's beautiful arrow work on my very special arrows, to better show off the visual impact of the two black fletches, a close-up of the shaft design/decoration, and a little sneek-peek of Your's Truly's pleasure at receiving the surprise gift:

Good stuff!!! :clapper:
Yes you should, awesome. Gave me inspiration to make me some with my campaign ribbons on it as well. Semper Fidelis
Is the emblem a stamp or decal?
THOSE ARE FANTASTIC!!!!
Awesome! Happy 4th! :clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
Another example of why I am proud to be part of the great fellowship that is Trad Gang!
Truly an excellent gift!
My deepest gratitude to you Bernie and to all those who have or still do serve our country in the military.
Have a great 4th of July everyone!
Terry
Toddster, I'm not positive but I believe it is a decal - under the finish - really looks good, and they are very uniform and excellently applied, in any case.
EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT!!
You are most deserving, Sir!!
A most excellent gift! :clapper:

Too cool for school.
Thanks for your service Bernie. :clapper:
Very nice.RC
WOW! That is just an INCREDIBLE thing, thanks for sharing it with us.
Thank you for your service to our country. You DESERVE those and quite a bit more for what you have sacrificed.
Those are truly beautiful arrows. NO WAY I could ever come close to making something that looked that good. I am amazed that the level of talent of many members here. The sad thing is, I don't have a BIT of it either.
Anyway, enjoy your arrows and may they all fly straight and true for you when it matters. The only possible problem I see is that I don't know if I would even want to SHOOT one of those works of art.
Thanks all around for this one.
Nalajr
Wow! Over the top and well deserved! :clapper: :clapper:
Toddster, they're decals. I have used stamps in the past in a different arrow application and the clarity and detail don't come close to the decal.
Guy
Those little emblems may (or may not) very well be the easiest part of your attention to detail, Guy but that added touch makes my heart smile. Hope you like the pics of your work.
Thanks for sharing .... :campfire:
:clapper:
Very nice.
That is awesome SEMPER FI
Thanks, guys.
Now thats true americanism
Really nice looking arrows and a great gesture!
Cool, yes they are great, and they do get the heart to race a little, like hearing the Hymn at gradution.

Semper Fi brother!!!!!!
Thank you Bernie for your service! I noticed your birthday is the day after mine so we have something in common plus we both shoot a Hoots recurve so we have two things in common... :clapper:
Semper Fi, leatherneck, and thank you, Keefer - That's interesting to know too. Love Lee Hoots' bows.
I was at John Dills today and Cindy left for the post office with a bunch of boxes to ship. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed your name on one of the labels. Keep an eye out about tuesday. I'm jealous. DB
Super nice arrows and well deserved, thanks for your service Bernie.

Semper Gumby you old Leatherneck!!!
Very nicely done! Thank you (and all our service men and women) for their selfless service!
A dear friend of mine, who's e-mail i lost in a computer crash late last year, sent me a picture today (of a deer he got during the recent season). After I thanked him by reply for renewing/updating his e-mail addee, he then also sent another e-mail witha link to this thread. He commented that they were great looking "sticks" and that he thought I might be interested in the link. I couldn't imagine what it was until I clicked on it.
Preston (Roberson) it all came back with a flood of pleasure and emotion. Thank you Preston for starting this day off with a bang (and something in my eye) and thank Grey Taylor again for the great, meaningful gift, and all the many members for their heart warming comments.
As an update i seem to be my old self again and all I'm lacking is getting the full strength back in my arms and legs. With that in mind, I started back, on Jan 1st with my old exercise/flexibility morning program (without a resolution - they "break" too easily LOL). I was surprised that, but for one particular (hard for me) lift, I was able to start back with the same number of exercises and reps that I was doing when I had to quit last year when the UTI knocked me for a loop during the St. Jude Auction last year.
May 2013 be as good for all of you as (I have high hopes) it will be for me. Hope to be back with bow practice posts, etc. - as soon as Spring warms up these ol' bones. My heart got warmed this morning for an extra special good start - :goldtooth:
Great To hear Bernie!
Here's to a great 2013
:archer:
Outstanding! :notworthy:
Wow, those are some beautifully crafted arrows. I would set them up in a leather hip quiver and hang on the wall. What an incredible gift!
Very cool!!! Don :clapper:
Most folks wouldn't know how sentimental Preston can be. All they see on the outside is a 12 ring hitting, dear killing, farting individual.
Get in shape Bernie. You have work to do.
Wow!!
Good to hear you're back on track Bernie, don't overdo it,it's a while till spring.
I can read the campaigns and thank you for your service. You and I probably shot together at CLNC in the 70's. Semper Fi
Skip, Marine retired
Very nice gesture!
