Title: New Recurve, need advice
Post by: Cavalry Scout on July 03, 2012, 12:57:00 PM
I just got a Samick Sage recurve.  I have been shooting some with the Temp gets below 11billion Degrees.  I have a 28" draw, 50lbs limbs on a 62" recurve.  Right now I'm shooting 35/55 GT at 28.25" with a 125grn tip.
Any suggestion on an arrow set up?  Starting point?
Where is a good place to order a new sring? Thinking a Fast flight twist.
* last question - If I wanted to clean up the fit and finish on the riser, how much can you take off the grip area?
Thanks in advance.

Those arrows will work fine. I like the Carbon Express 90's or 150's better though. the nocks are tighter in the shafts and they are a heavier gpi compared to the same spine of the GT's which will give you a little heavier arrow.

Not sure your Samick will take a Fast Flight string. But if so pm Allen Shafer   http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_profile;u=00009316   a pm.

I agree with Tom...those arrows should work out of that setup... and I would also advise a FF string if your bow can handle it....the tips must be reinforced with micarta or phenolic to handle the FF material.

I would think (having had a similar setup) that you need more than 125 grains up front to make those arrows fly...especially if you have shortned them from full lentgh.  I would think you would need closer to 200 up front.

I shoot 30.5" 3555 with 175, so I agree with the shorter length you will need a heavier point. The bow is quieter, and you get better penetration.

If you want good info in the riser mod post on the bowyers bench. Include a picture and you'll get better response.
I agree on heavier points on the 35/55 GT. 200 would be a good start.

The Sage is approved for FF. I like SBD strings. You can find them in the sponsor classifieds. Those arrows should be excellent for that bow. If you aren't getting good arrow flight get some heavier field points. I would think 150 or 175 would be about right.

Carbon express are a heavier grain per inch arrow. most guys myself included like to shoot a heavier shaft, absorbs more energy from the bow, make the bow more quiet  better flight and increases penetration on game.
